You don't have to sell McKinney to FANS because they/we are FANS and we have NO say in who starts. It's just a select few who can't handle it, and they bitched about JJ, they bitched about Cole Berguist and on and on. They can't let go of the fact that NO MATTER who much season tickets cost them and no matter how much they donate to the program, they have NO say in what happens with the UM football team inside the lockerroom and on the field so they have to tear it down on a message board to make themselves feel better. McKinney already sold himself to the coaching staff, to his teammates and even to the guy who would have been the starter this season (JJ). He doesn't have to sell himself to anyone else on this board and for those of you who say you are going to stop going to the games if TM keeps the job and keeps putting up these numbers, FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIFE, PROVE IT!!!! BECAUSE, you said the same shit about JJ, Roper, Bergquist and so on, and yet you all seem to be posting about how you have been at damn near every game.
TM is the starter in 2011, it's not gonna change. The staff is rolling with him, and I'd bet anyone any amount of money that even if the Griz lose to NAU this weekend, TM starts at EWU on Sept. 29!!!

I am behind TM 100%, but he isn’t a shadow of JJ. The Griz would be 3-0 right now (by a considerable margin) with Jordan Johnson at the helm.

A rather intangible thing to compare was the throws being made, JJ was making all of the mid/deep throws from the start while Trent has not been asked to do it that often. OC's are different, playcalling is different.
I don't know for sure if Trent will just keep getting better like JJ did, I hope he does, I think looking at these stats it could suggest that if he does keep working to improve he could be playing at a real high level come Nov/Dec.
The receivers also need to catch the ball better downfield. That would improve the downfield passing. Only Gratton has consistently done that.

One thing I think I've figured out is that nobody is more interested in playing the best player than the coaches. Their livelihood and professional reputation depend on it. They see the players practice each day and carefully track their effectiveness. If there was a better quarterback than TM on the roster, there is no doubt in my mind he'd be in the game.
The odd part of this debate is that the real question that might be asked is why there seems to be a lack of depth at the quarterback position?
And if we lose to EWU, he'll still start for the next five weeks when we could throw you out there and still win. It ain't about the regular season, it's about the playoffs for us... when the team-talent levels off and we face top defenses and coaches. It bit us in the ass at SHSU... it'll bite us in the ass again. PS: I thought Selle, Roper and Bergquist were pretty good quarterbacks. Selle seemed to be lost with the Nu-Pflu offense and lost some accuracy, plus the line couldn't pass-block a sneeze for Selle or Roper (or run block for Chase). I'm assuming well all know Roper's problem was attitude... but then again, if I was getting pounded on 3/4 quarters of all my passing attempts, I'd be a little surley as well.havgrizfan said:Brint, stop wasting your time trying to justify TM to the four posters on EGRIZ who need to puff out their chest by saying they know more than the coaches do. Excellent point/question. The U should not be in that position, regardless of the JJ situation.

If the ball was actually thrown to the receiver it would be easier for them to catch it.. I think TM will be fine but he needs to place the ball better so the receivers can make a playl. :twocents:
