McGhee

MRI's are read within minutes. If not by the staff radiologist by a contract service. In Missoula that service happens to be in Australia. India is also a popular choice. The reading is s quick, the results are in the ER docs hands often before the patient is back from the pricedure area.

Last play of the game where there was no chance to winning... sigh.

I hope it isn't too serious, but these kinds of things can linger for a whole season even if he is cleared to play.

Time to see what Bleskin and/or Prukop are made of...

Same kind of hit happened to Gerald Kemp in 2011. Can't remember the game, might have been UNC when JJ didn't play due to a bad ankle. Was hit and landed on his throwing shoulder. I think it lead to a partial separation of his shoulder or something. He wound up missing a few weeks but did come back. Granted his main role after that was WR/RB so he wasn't throwing the ball.

And with that, the first deposit is made into the November Excuse Account!

Dammit!! Don't say that!! I wanna see a really good, healthy Griz/cat game this year. Last year sucked cuz of the drama.

Emergent MRIs, yes. Twenty minutes is the rough average target for a turnaround time for a telerad service (although that is for a high volume ER, certainly not Bozeman).

Non-emergent MRIs, such as those for a shoulder injury, are usually around 2-3 days, especially over the weekend. Now, the hospital could have definitely made DM's MRI a stat, since he's the quarterback of the most important team in town. It looks like that is exactly what must have happened here.

All in all, your blanket statement that "MRIs are read within minutes" is patently false.

McGhee comes back or does not come back....Why are we running such a long winded thread on the guy?

Most Griz fans do not want to see a kid hurt. We hope the McGhee comes back and is able to play.

End of story. Is he the only msu player or do they have others on the team?

Well that sucks. I fell sorry for the guy, who frankly deserves more credit for MSU's turnaround than Rob Ash.

MSU does have a number of other players, but incredibly, DM is one of only two "starters", (a center is also listed as a 1st teamer). That those two were able to hang in with an FBS program (albeit a bottom-of-the-barrel one) for 4 quarters is quite remarkable, and explains why scat fans are feeling pretty depressed moving forward.
Not sure how Ash plans to handle this; trot in one of the backups, or let the center go it alone against CO-Mesa?

Re: your question on how to handle, I think the latter. The fake snap hasn't been used in a while, and I think it could really throw Mesa for a loop.

Seriously, it sucks that McGhee is hurt. Hopefully not too long. But if the Cats are as good as they claim, they should be able to handle injuries. Every team has to deal with injuries, and true champions can find ways to win.

Jake is the number two guy. You can't look at his stats as he has only played during garbage time. He is a really talented, smart athlete. He is avery accurate passer and has a good arm. I think he will do fine. If McGhee is out, this is his chance to show what he can do. The coaches are also very high on Prukrop. He may even have more speed than Bleskin and has a huge arm.
So here is what roderick said when he signed with MSU:

BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) — Tanner Roderick, who led Bozeman High to state football and basketball championships as a senior, is transferring from Nevada to Montana State to play football.

The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/URsMk4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) Roderick has three years of eligibility remaining after two seasons at Nevada, including a redshirt year.

Roderick says he'll play wide receiver this fall and compete for the quarterback spot after DeNarius McGhee graduates. Roderick played wide receiver as a sophomore in high school.

Seems strange he isn't even in the mix as a backup, but plans to compete for the starting job next year?

Coaching staff feels comfortable that Bleskin is the #2 guy and will do a great job. People who followed him in high school tell me if he wasn't injured I believe in his senior year in HS he would have had some FBS offers. I guess his junior year was exceptional. Also, I think the coaches feel Roderick will help the team more in the WR role. He is a tremendous all around athlete and they are using him in different ways to take advantage of his abilities. I guess we will find out about Blesking in the next couple of weeks!

Not an excuse, just a thought.

In that same vein, if it is a lingering injury and the Cats win, that would mean you couldn't even beat the Cats with an injured QB...

So go ahead and set up the excuse bit, as long as you accept the other scenario in your little projection.

They can or are done faster in Missoula. My high school son, after a football injury, had an exam, x-ray and mri, in that order, one morning at an ortho clinic--and the surgeon called me on our way home to ask if my son could come back for surgery later in the day. The time between the mri and the call, was probably less than 45 minutes.

He's gonna be back for Griz/cat.

That's pretty cool/good medicine. One of the benefits of low volume I suppose. I only chimed in because my wife is a physician (radiologist) who currently practices telerad from home (all emergency). Her previous job was at UCLA Med Center where a non-stat MRI might be be two days out. Thanks for the info; always looking for "ammunition" to get her to agree to move back to Montana.
