Matt Troxel hired as Offensive Assistant

can someone please tell me, what the hell is an offensive assistant exactly?.
Seriously? College football teams have head coaches and several assistants. The first level of assistants are coordinators for offense, defense, special teams. Swett had outside receivers and passing game coordinator. The specifics of Troxel's assignment has not yet been announced. He was offensive coordinator at ISU. Our offensive coordinator is Bob Stitt. Most recognize the need for improvement in passing game coordination, among others. Troxel's very poor ISU team put up 44 on the Griz; I suspect he had Semore's defensive tendencies very well scouted.

you beat me to it, esp the observation about having Semore scouted very well.

o.k , so I assume you don't know either. what is it specifically he does, like working with the running backs, wide recievers. o lineman or what. other than previous guy does anybody know?

Well, since the guy was hired about 5 minutes ago, and it's January 13th, I'm certain they'll figure out exactly WHAT he's going to do.

For those with a little more background on Matt, can you elaborate why this is such a good hire.

From everything I've heard it seems like a good fit, I just dont know much about the guy and what he brings to the table.

Comes from a coaching family, his dad Van Troxel was a high school head coach for 22 years in CDA and more time in Missoula before that - just retired this year.

Matt was a potentially dynamic slot WR and returner for the Griz but the injury bug bit him a few too many times, think it was mostly ankle/lower leg related stuff.

GA for Montana in 2009. ISU after that, worked his way from inside WRs and special teams, to O line, to offensive coordinator and OC. If you pull a quick search on him there's a lot of great praise for him and quite a few articles that he's a future head coach in the making.

Good to hear. And wasn't Selle previously our offensive assistant? Or is he just QB's?

Griz through and through. Dad was a highly successful high school coach for 30 years in Missoula and Coeur d'Alene. I have heard he has a really good reputation in the coaching circles.

And don't forget his Grampa Ed Troxel. Head football and track coach at Idaho in the '70s. One of Ed's first hires was for his OC, a 27 year-old kid named Dennis Erickson.

Perhaps he'll be calling plays. He's actually the OC, but they're keeping it hush hush! Or not! But would be nice!

it is a person that helps out and has body odor.

Post of the year
Did someone just create an account to nominate a poty? Oh that's tooo much :D

Yeah, I'm guessing that was outsider quoting himself. Because it wasn't funny.
Ya, I'd have said someone that helps while acting like a complete dick all the time.

Looks like this is Stitt's attempt to let go of the reins in the dual capacity of being HC and OC at the same time. He said he would look at the program top to bottom to make changes and this seems to be a prudent move. Let's see how this evolves in spring ball.

Granddad on the other side is Joe Roberts. Longtime former principal and football coach ( a great one) at Sentinel High School. Joe's son, Joe Jr., Tom Mahlum, and Brian Flaig were all Missoula kids who were snubbed by the Griz who went to that place east of here and were integral to their success of that era and winning that phantom National Championship. IMO the worst decisions in the history of UM football.

In my opinion, our HC that wants to be the OC is the reason for the season meltdown.

The focus on both jobs wasnt there...
