Matt Martin

Is he injured or is he in Coach K's doghouse? He has absolutely diappeared the last couple games. He hardly played this last week against ISU and Weber, but he didn't look injured when he did play. Anybody know what's up?

He isn't injured. I heard Krysko in pregame say that Matt didn't have his hands up against ISU on defense. Krysko has started to really put an emphasis on defense. Dlouhy, who was a better matchup against Weber state's Patton than Martin, started in his place.

So, part of it maybe the doghouse, but most of it is defense and matchup against opposing players.

Plus, Ellis is playing so well that he will be getting more playing time at point guard. Much quicker than Martin, and a little better ball handler. Possibly a better passer. Ellis though, hasn't shot worth a darn. But, then, Martin hasn't exactly shot that well recently.

Changing roles this late in season is tough. It may be just this game that Martin comes off the bench (and maybe when they play Weber State on the road). Not every player is good at coming off the bench providing a spark. Dlouhy has been good. Not sure if Martin is that type of player. 6 minutes of playing time is not much to get into any rhythm or get into the flow of the game. But then, having Matthews, Criswell, or Martin to matchup against Weber State's Patton is a tough assignment. Dlouhy provided a better matchup.

It will be interesting to see if Krysko let's Martin match up against his best friend at MSU on Saturday...

I was wondering the exact same thing. Ellis may be quicker, but at least Martin is a scoring threat. Ellis, all though a good ball handler, is no threat to score at all. Regardless, I love the way the Griz play. Never giving up, no matter how far down they get. I haven't had this much fun at a Griz b-ball game in years.

I'd take Martin over daddy's boy any day.

Martin>>>Durham family

Saturday's game is a heck of a lot bigger than Casey VS Matt, I think Ellis is outplaying Martin right now and his defense is much better, his assist to turnover ratio is outstanding as well.

The key to me is the GRIZ getting off to a better start than the last two games. One of these times it is going to jump up and bite them in the butt. No need to get those 4000 cat fans into the game. Griz jump out early, take the crowd out, and snap that little win streak the kittens have put together. Dissly was back to normal Saturday, no telling what game he brings, Jefferson is tough, Beye is a ? mark as well. I hope Durham launches all night with his less than .300 shooting percentage.

4000? mabey 3000 Its a 3PM game and those fans are late at showing up... My guess is 1000 will show up at 7PM

I do not think it was intentional but would consider going from starter and 3rd in scoring 10.3 per game to (six minutes of mop up) a little severe considering the need for outside scoring against the collapsing on Strait. Matt Martin is also very handy to have at the free throw line down the stretch. But it did take a year to find Virgil Matthews and a year and 13 games to decide Dlouhy was a starter.

Geez, people. There will be no less than 6000 people at the game on Saturday, I think. It drives me nuts how a good number of people don't show up on time here in Bozeman. I'm always early to the games! And the students will be back for this game and the game matches two 2-0 teams and two ancient rivals that have played close to 250 times on the court. I think it's close to 250. I'll look that up. But anyway, expect a packed house on Saturday.

I guess it is "ccol" to be late in Bozone, maybe there need more posts to tie up the horses

Martin has averaged 9.3ppg as a frosh and 8.9ppg this year and had started 39 consecutive games for a NCAA tourney team and another shoe-in NCAA team. Yeah he's terrible. Only the Griz could afford to bench a guy that good. Our depth is unprecedented. Careful what you wish for.

We have the luxury of benching people to get their attention and get more production out of them. The WSU game had to a be a shock to him. I anticipate seeing an inspired Martin.

Hasquet should be the next to get the wake-up call benching. He has looked terrible the last few games.

I think Ellis does alot of things well, but he can't score. It suprises me that opposing teams don't recognize this. When they do, he will have a much tougher time getting anything done. He looked good from the FT line, but very poor from the 3PT line. I hate the thought of the guy with the ball in his hands most of the time, not being able to score. Martin doesn't have that problem, you must honor his shot. Ellis will drive all the way to the hoop, but with no intention/ability to score the ball, I don't think that's healthy. Martin bring much more game. If this little switch lites a fire under Martin, that's great, but if it pisses Martin off, somebody's made a big mistake.

Ellis may not be the shooter that Martin is but nobody on the team can match his speed or ball handling ability. I think the Griz are in fine shape w/either guy on the floor.
