Marso Out as Hoop Coach

I'm not a fan of Marso I think he should have never been rehired or brought back in the first place. He really hasn't done much recruiting wise and well I think a lot of the players have lost respect for him since he got here. rundles was his guy and his off court problems didn't help. Plus, O'Day has made it very clear from what I've heard that the bad press needs to stop for the Ath Dept. So if there is any truth to the rumor I think it's a good thing plus Tinkle needs to get some native Montana blood on his staff. Jeff Hays is right there and will do a great job other canidates would be Eric Stang who has collegiate experience and Mike Bauer former Tech Head coach. :twocents:

Personally I would like to see Leroy Washington back at UM.

I thought about him but, I don't if the pay range for that position would lure him to come back.

I am not against seond chances per se, but, I don't think UM should be in the business of bringing in coaches who need a second chance. There are too many good coaches out there without baggage who would love to be at UM.

Bauer does not have any baggage he resigned on his own terms and he never got into trouble or had problems. He ran a clean program and had limits at Tech when it came to recruiting. He stepped away because he felt somebody else needed to take over and build on what he was able to accomplish. It wasn't much but, he did the best he could. He has never been an assistant coach on a staff with multiple coaches so in many ways it would be a first shot for him. Probably getting off subject here so I apologize. :dope:

Good Guy? Good guys don't stab their bosses (Rick Dessing) in the back, especially a boss that gave him his first job out of college. Trust me, there is no head coach in any program (let alone D1) worth his weight that'll ever hire Mike Bauer as their assistant....not to mention his teams played as undisciplined of basketball that I have ever seen.

I'd also like to see the proof of Dessing's so-called drinking problem. He is a great guy, and a fantastic basketball coach. Ask Brad Huse what kind of coach Dess is?

yes i agree. dessing was a good HC, the team hated him because he tried to instill law and order on that ballclub

I would like to see a coach with a little more college coaching experience. Whether he is a minority hire or not doesn't really matter if he is the right person for the job. To hire a minority just for cosmetic reasons would be a mistake and the players will see through it anyway. Coaches need to compliment each other and there is a chemistry needed there too. :twocents:

I for one would love to get a good teacher, seasoned hardnosed veteran with some connections in either the midwest, southeast, or northeast to add to our recruiting base some. Ties to either FL, TX, IN, OH, MI, or NY would be great. Is there any veteran coaches out there ready to retire and live a simple life in Montana? (Bob Knight? Joking). IF we want a Bob Knight type fire, go out and see if John Morrison would be interested coming out of retirement. (I know many here are not familar with him, but he was a very good JC coach with ALOT of discipline and creativity.) Young or old they have to bring alot of discipline, defense, and rebounding principles that need to be taught.

As for someone with GRIZ ties. There are a few I wonder about.
I wish Kevin Criswell had desire to coach. If he did, he in my opinion would be an ideal young coach to groom. Is the Christiansen kid coaching anywhere? Is Roger Fastings coaching somewhere? Doug Selvig? Seriously, what former GRIZ are coaching with any desire to come back? I would love to see Michael Ray be given a shot too. I have a feeling that would really be controversial though in GRIZNATION.

I wonder if Paul Dumas would consider an assistant coaching position.

No. California, Nevada, Washington, Arizona, Utah, Montana, and the other western states are ideal for UM, not a part of the country that is probably not familiar with Montana. I like where we are recruiting. When that kid from the Bronx played for ISU a few years ago I thought it was rediculous. The kid probably had very little information about Pocatello and I would imagine did not fit in. We have had our share of kids be successful from the East, but I think we are better off recruiting where we are currently.

Let's see Dessing is driving a school car while intoxicated he hits another car. The guy is a good ole Butte guy who basically tells the college he won't make a big deal out of things if Dessing resigns. Depressing Dessing refuses so he gets the ax. Not even Coach K at Duke could surive a wrong like that and Bauer had nothing to with it. Dessing got mad at Bauer becuase, he wouldn't quit when they canned him. I don't blame Bauer in the least bit it wasn't his fault Dessing got behind the wheel that night. Ever since Dessing has said Bauer was Disloyal and stabbed him the back. Just to give you a look at Dessing's character when LC played Tech in Butte Dessing's first season back on the bench with a 1:20 left in the game he walks off the bench and heads into the locker room and shakes nobody's hand not even the players. Classless.

You want proof of his drinking problem go hang out with him.

I've never disputed his basketball knowledge or ability to coach that he is very good at but, his off court problems have taken away from his ability as a coach. Rick Dessing was a pillar at Montana tech long before Mike Bauer came along and to say Mike Bauer was the sole cause or even a remote cause is just plain b.s.

You want to know what Brad Huse thinks of Dessing's off court behavior call him and ask him.
