"You're crazy, champ. You're crazy." Such a corny marketing commercial!

But in all seriousness, why the heck doesn't the UM Administration advertise the program, put out commercials, hype up big games, etc.? I can't recall ever seeing a Griz football-related commercial on TV to get the fans pumped up...

Does the University of Montana need to promote season ticket sales in June? I hope not. I'm sure are some season tickets to be sold after the renewal deadline, probably not so many that the U needs to shell out bills for an ad campaign. There's still a waiting list, isn't there?

The fact that MSU is still promoting season football ticket sales in June, 11 weeks before the start of the season, sends a message about the interest level in Bobcat athletics --- and it isn't good.

I agree with you on that. Not a very good thing if MSU is trying to still advertise its season tickets two months before the start of the season.

I wasn't trying to imply that the University of Montana should promote season tickets, but more so wondering why the U doesn't promote football hardly at all to build excitement.

I don't remember UM ever advertising to promote the sports teams. Simply put, for apx. 30 years they haven't needed to. On the other hand, the bobcats need to hype their programs to try to maintain fan interest in the face of constantly disappointing results.

Personally I'm still more concerned with the lack luster approach to advertising the University to potential students. With kids currently in High School I'm observing how Montana isn't making enough effort. :ugeek:

Boy, I do. Don Read did these TV ads "It's a big, big, big, big game." Before the Griz played Boise State for the final time ever in 1995. Before that ---30 years ago-- UM definitely had to promote itself more.

You are spot on about neededing to do more to promote the university to potential students and Montana taxpayers for that matter. I might see Montana in this half of the state a couple times a year. I see MSU staff doing outreach in person at least monthly.

UM has done some TV marketing for games. Who could forget this great commercial from 5 or 6 years ago.

But, sure, there's always room for improvement.

I think the only waiting lists have been for specific areas, usually cheaper seats. With the big GSA requirement, the upper deck expansion has never been sold out to the level they would like; I just picked up two adjoining seats to ours when I noticed they went unsold most of last year. Sitting on the east side, the last couple years we have noticed a lot of empty seats on the west side; never sure whether they are season ticket no-shows or season tickets that have been vacated and unsold as individuals.

Some of those empty seats are spoken for. I have a about 10 in my section that belong to a business that also has a skybox. Sometimes the seats are filled, sometimes not, but the tickets are spoken for.

UM needs to be careful that they don't end up like the many golf courses and country clubs around the country that are struggling for members. They assumed that demand would always be high, and they could treat people like crap and still have long waiting lists.

You can get away with Kiss-Cams, Cotton-eyed Joe, 50/50 pot splits and a guy in bear suit only so long before people begin taking a second look in their wallets, weighing the value of what they're seeing on the field while wondering what's really going on behind the scenes... :coffee:

Its cotton eye joe and every sporting event in the country does a 50/50 split the pot drawing. I love both of them also, its part of Griz gameday. I could do without kiss cam and the jimmy johns sandwich contest. Not a big fan of the wave either, especially when the Griz are on O. What kind of a moron tries to get the wave going while the Griz are on offense?? I see it almost every game.

You can thank some drunk students for that. It's always starting in the student section.

If you're a Cotton-eyed Joe afficionado going to Laramie in August you'll probably hear it there. It was played at their tailgate the last time the Griz were in town. Hee Haaaawwww.
