..... Larry Krystowiak!

I don't know if he wants to come back to the college level, but this would such a perfect selection Nevada

Now of course the Nevada fans would have to get over the NCAA loss Larry put on them a few years back

owww!!..the unkindest cut of all!

i know a few college coaches who've moved up to the pros, only to return..most notably, rick pitino and john calipari. but a couple of points.

first, once you've had a taste of the pro lifestyle--huge salaries, private jets, perks galore--i don't think you want to return to the college life. when bill walsh went back to stanford after his niner career, he had a lot of humorous comments about recruiting--the salivating dogs, the crummy cookies, the creaky chairs and fawning mothers--all in the vein of, "this is way beneath me anymore." my sense is that larry is a "pro" guy, with lots of contacts at the pro level, who obviously wasn't given a decent chance in milwaukee and is probably just biding his time till he gets another shot.

but second, for all his coaching abilities, krysko was a l-o-u-s-y recruiter. I know his staff played a role in this, but rundles, swift, van vliet and vanderjagt were all recruited during his tenure, and all were busts. with all the good aussie players out there right now, i'm wondering if krysko didn't snag the one stiff on the entire continent. where, of course, pitino and calipari are outstanding recruiters, and probably resented that player personnel decisions were made elsewhere.

so i say, fat chance. hope so, anyway.

Even when Larry Krystkowiak was an assistant coach at Montana I had the feeling that he primarily wanted to a Pro coach. I think that is where his heart / ego is. He did not like the recruiting aspect of of the college game especially. Still though it is rather ironic though that he has more collateral as a college coach right now than a pro coach. If he did get take a college job I think the first thing he would need to do is to go out and get himself an assistant who enjoyed and was very good with the recruiting process.

Still though, I don't think he is really interested in a college job right now - I could be mistaken - but I do believe he would do a very good job at Nevada., but I hear the job will most likely go to one of the assistants (Carter?).

Travis Dequire. He was with Blain Taylor for several years at ODU. He is now an assistant with Monty at UC Berkley in the Pac 10. He is a west coast guy, an up and comer and is probably ready to be a head coach.

David Carter, a Nevada assistant since 1999, was hired as Nevada's coach last Friday, April 3rd.
