Mariani listed as NFL "Sleeper" in Bleacher Report

Mariani has nice size and great versatility. He's not the quickest kid on the field, but he does run a 40-yard dash in the sub-4.5 range, which makes him a decent bet to fill in as a slot receiver for any team in the league.

In his senior season, he grabbed 81 catches for more than 1,400 yards and 14 scores. That's more than 18 yards per catch on the season.

Sure, he played at a smaller school against lesser competition than, say, a Jordan Shipley of Texas. But last I checked, the ability to run and catch has more to do with a player's success than the school the player reps—just ask Terrell Owens.

Mariani has playmaking talent, and in the early going, special teams value as well. That makes him a legitimate prospect for any number of NFL teams.

Matt Nichols also is one of the 10.

Central Washington University had its pro day on Monday. Two scouts from the Colts and a scout and the GM for the Chargers attended along with scouts from 5 other teams. The Colts and Chargers sent two people each because apparently they are scouting receivers hard.

Point of the story is, they were scouting Jonny Spevak. He was Mike Reilly's (quarterback from Kalispell who is there all-time leading passer and currently plays for St. Louis) go to receiver, CWU's all-time leading receiver, pretty much our Marc Mariani, except Marc is better.

If those same scouts saw Marc work out and he could perform how he can, get his face out there, he could have a long, successful career. Marc made Roper look good! Peyton Manning? Psshhhhhhh.

Austin Collie had a productive season. He was projected as a 2nd round pick until he ran a 4.64 and dropped into the fourth round. My point? Marc is better than Spevak and more athletic than both Spevak and Collie. He won't be a fourth round pick, he probably won't be drafted at all. But if he can get on a roster of a stable franchise with a franchise quarterback, he could be a productive receiver. Not Collie (60 for 676 and 7 tds) productive as a rookie maybe, but he could have a decently long career. I hope he gets a shot as well.
