Mariani Hurt

That really sucks. That type of injury typically takes at least two years. That may the last we'll see of Mariani on the field in the NFL.

seriously?? I have a buddy that is a physical therapist and he texted me if everything goes good without complication he should be fine for next season.

How many compound fractures have taken less than two years for a professional football player? Not only does the bone have to be reset, usually with a rod inserted, but it also has to be able to take the same sort of impact that it did prior to the injury.

You don't rush back from this injury. Does your buddy rehab NFL players with compound fractures?

No. I was just saying that this isn't just a torn ACL, at least based on the gruesome video of Marc's injury. As a player who needs his legs, this could be devastating. I hope he's back next summer, though!!! He's fun to watch, and a class act.

Since it happened in the preseason he might be able to come back. Bryant Young of the Niners did it and was back pretty quick. The bone actually heals very quick with the rod. It's the rehab and potential loss of speed that will be difficult.

It really depends on now severe the damage is. If it is just the bone, there should be no reason that Marc should not be able to go next season. But if there is further damage, it could be longer. By looking at it, I see nothing that would suggest it is more than just bone, but until they get test results, difficult to say.

@AdamSchefter: Titans WR Marc Mariani has an open fracture of the leg, bone broke thru skin, per source. Having surgery tonight. Lengthy recovery.

like I already posted my physical therapist friend said if everything went well without complication he should be fine in a year, then NW Mouth basically called me and my buddy idiots and said it was a two year injury.

I guess we will see.

Bummer. Ugly. Note that he hung onto the ball. Even when he's on his back and reaching for his leg, he's still has the ball tucked in his other hand.

Leon Washington did it in a year just fine. Hell, he a had career year in 2010 for the Hawks returning kicks after his compound midway through 2009. Mariani will have even longer since it's still preseason.

THIS. I think he will be back to functioning quite quickly. His gift is his quickness, and he relies on it for his position. This injury could impact that. He's made it obvious that he has the heart of a lion and I have no doubt he will rehab back from this stronger than most. But sometimes injuries just have residual damage no matter how well you rehab. I just hope he doesn't lose too much quickness or speed :(

I never called you an idiot at all. I said that a compound fracture isn't a typical recovery, and may take longer than what people think right now. Plus, there is no guarantee that Marc will ever be completely healed from this catastrophic injury. He's not elite fast, but he is elite quick.

Again, though, I never called you an idiot.

As I said, I hope Marc recovers ASAP. Why put the pressure on him, though?

that is our MM.
The only MM fumble I can think of right now was during the CWU game. I seem to remember BH going absolutely bazonkers, almost to the point that I thought it (MM's fumble and BH's reaction) was going to cost us that game. For as much as I badmouth bobbyball, I do give BH high marks for STs and ball control
