You act like we are losing a god and their replacement is somone who had never seen a football before. BG has decent stats but had a mid par year. The system will have this years QB with a 60% completion and 2000+yards. I think whoever is QB will have around 20+ TDs and hopefully under 10 ints. That's a pretty generic year with the system we have in place. That's basically BG stats line last year. Only difference is our WR are experienced(less drops and Better routes) our online will be stronger (hopefully better time to stretch the d) and our run game should be more stout (takes pressure off the QB and forces the d to respect it). While I agree QB play is very important, it's not like we are looking off a cliff from BG to our new guys.
I don't think anyone is saying Gustafson was that great. But losing a starter and starting over with someone without D1 experience isn't a gun situation. Experience is a valuable trait. It just doesn't entirely make up for pitfalls in other areas though.
If the Texas kid starts, he played against countless future FBS players at his JUCO, not to mention HS.
Good point. He probably has the most experience. Whoever it is, I'll still worry about the chemistry between the players, because that's a key difference between good teams and elite teams, but we obviously didn't exactly have that last year, either.
I'm just not exactly a fan of our QB situation right now. Just looking over the roster and before cuts, it looks like we've got two transfers, R-Sr. Reese Phillips from University of Kentucky, and Junior Caleb Hill from Blinn College in Texas. Then there's a R-Fr. Gresch Jensen, plus the two recruits, Nate Dick and Tanner Wilson. I'm guessing Hill gets the start, considering that Stitt probably needs an immediate solution and Phillips could never beat out Gustafson.
