Malik Flowers question

If I could ask Hauck one question, it would be why do you not get the ball in Malik's hands more? The kid is an absolute burner and a play maker. He seems to have good hands and should be able to take the top off of defenses. End arounds, fly sweeps, line him up outside and let him fly, wr screens, etc. He rarely sees the field on offense and I'm curious as to why.

He's not a good Wide-Receiver. He doesn't get open (watch him!) and isn't willing to make a tough catch in traffic. His hands are decent. I agree that he is electric in the open-field and we should give him end-arounds and reverses, but he isn't a great route runner or able to get separation often.

based on the number of contested passes our WR seem to have to fight for, I have to ask do ANY of them get open? And the only "tough catch" I saw made saturday was Bergen's TD. Many routine balls were flat out dropped...

I also have question. Why isn't Bergen in the game on virtually every offensive play? He and Roberts should be on the receiving end of 80 plus percent of the passes thrown.

I honestly don't understand why we rotate our receivers as much as we do. It's clear that Johnson wasn't on the same page with a few of them, and I have a feeling constantly switching who he's throwing too messes up the rhythm even more.

If the answer is that there isn't a clear-cut top 2 or 3 guys, then that...seems...bad?

I said that same thing a couple weeks ago and was ridiculed for it lmao

There are moments and events in life that make a person stare into space with a blank look and wonder. That’s what this offense does to me.

I'm curious what makes you think he isn't willing to make a tough catch in traffic? I can't say that I've ever seen him have an opportunity to make a tough catch in traffic let alone simply not be willing to do it. Route running...ya maybe that's an issue, but I don't really see many of our other WR's getting a whole lot of separation either. Then I look at this past game and think to myself...how in the hell does it seem that every Idaho WR is so wide open? Good things can happen when Flowers (and certainly Bergen) get the ball. I just think they both need more opportunities. But then again, I've never "coached" the game. :coffee:

They were prepared for our defensive coverage scheme and we weren't for theirs. They made good 2nd qtr adjustments and we didn't. Did you notice their QB had all day second quarter on? Or had a quick dump option if we blitzed? They found the holes in the Griz D and the Griz didn't close them. Don't get me started on the two late interceptions in the same place on the same throws to the same Vandal. Their coverage schemes left Johnson wide open to run, Get an oline to release to the spy and he was gone for huge gains.

As much maligned as the bubble screen was with JLM, something like that with Malik, Fontes, White, or Bergen should be a great play. These receivers all block well. Getting the opposing D spread out some more might open up some running lanes.

Of course I’m just a dumb-ass fan who thinks he has all the answers to go with my ever expanding waistline.

The interceptions were to two different Vandals. One was a Notre Dame transfer.

You are right that there is limited data to back my claim. But they have NEVER thrown an alley-oop inside the 10 yard to him have they? Why not? I think the coaches don't trust him to win a one-on-one play like that either. He is an open-field guy, and unable to be an elite WR despite his seemingly oozing raw talent. It's up to the coaches to best utilize him. I agree-get him the ball more...whatever it takes.

They have thrown atleast 2 fades to him inside the 15 that I can think of this year. One was overthrown and on he made the diving catch out of bounds

I knew I would probably be proven wrong (and I give you props fankb), but really? 2 chances in 3 years? and 0 TDs? I stand by my main contention that he is not a legit WR. He's a gimmick-guy.
