UM Alum JK Simmons hosts SNL tomorrow night--UM's greatest thespian since Carroll O'Connor.
Jonathan Kimble Simmons or "Jungle Killer," UM Class of '78, will host the show for the first time after winning The Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in "Whiplash," where Simmons plays a Marine DI-like music teacher Terrence Fletcher guiding his aspiring young student Miles Teller at a music school, such as Julliard, Berkley, etc. He has been nominated for an Oscar as best supporting actor for "Whiplash" and is a strong contender for this very prestigious award to go along with his Golden Globe.

This is not JK's first appearance on SNL--he first appeared in a skit with Jerry Seinfeld in 1999, where Seinfeld has been sentenced to prison for the crime of confusing everyone with the last episode of the show and he finds himself in "Oz," the dark HBO prison drama that ran for 6 years and won critical acclaim for Simmon's portrayl of inmate Neo-Nazi Vernon Schillinger.

I loved SImmons as Dr. Emil Skoda, the cool and wise crime psychiatrist on "Law and Order," and he was also quite good as LA Asst. Police Chief Will Pope on the TNT series "The Closer," opposite Kyra Sedgwick and in the Spider Man triology, where he plays nutty newspaper editor Jonah Jameson.
He is probably best known currently for "The Professor" on The Farmer's Insurance commercials.
And then on Sunday, watch former GRIZ and current Seattle LB Bock Coyle, #52. Brock will probably mainly play special teams unless a starting Seahawk's LB is hurt. He has worked his butt off to get where he is, and all GRIZ and Montanans should be proud of him--he made the world-champion Seahawks as a rookie, undrafted free agent.
