Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean in Wa-Griz

Exactly! They started making a concerted effort the last few years to host more concerts in Wa-Griz and Dahlberg cause they get all the money for hosting it. I believe Marcus Welnel said they dump all the money into the NIL collective as well! Now we got this and Post Malone and Jelly Roll in July.

“Haslam noted that the money made from Pearl Jam's show in 2018 helped pay for and put in a new soccer field for the Grizzlies.

That money will come from all kinds of negotiated areas, from renting the facilities out, to beer sales, concessions, parking, tickets and more.”

Announced for August 1. That will probably be a sell out I’d assume. If I remember correctly, the U of M brings in hundreds of thousands of $ from these concerts.

Edit: just checked, they brought in $1 million total from their 3 previous concerts
The trolls on the other side of the divide often call UM the school of song and dance and also seem to think that if Reno H Sales is expanded, they’ll get all the great concerts instead of Wa Griz. It really has little to do with stadium size, it’s more about the incredible entertainment management program (EMP) offered at UM and the longstanding music industry relationships formed over the years by alumni of the EMP have brought these shows to Missoula.
It’s always good to be a Griz!!

I always confuse the two Luke's that are country singers. A few Zach's too. Then there is a Luke Bryan and a Zach Bryan? But they are not related?

I saw Luke Bryan at the Adams Center many years ago. I’ve also seen him at Empower Field at Mile High. Adams Center was a lot better than an NFL stadium for concerts.

Didn't the EMP bachelor's degree just start this past fall (2025)? I'm impressed the students and alumni of the program have already created longstanding relationships.
That's correct, but they've offered a certificate for quite a while now. When I was in the Business school 6-7 years ago, that was the most popular certificate in the College of Business. They even had (and still have) their own dedicated office space on the bottom floor of the Business school. There was a lot of demand from Business students to offer a bachelors degree for it! Even when it was just a certificate, they had a very strong pipeline for placing students in show biz but primarily in the music industry with concert tours and crews.

Yeah....I saw that after I googled a bit, so edited my initial post. Honestly sounds like a pretty cool major.....and honestly one that I would have considered back in the day. Hopefully they are able to sustain it.

I know two alum personally who are well connected in the music industry.
One from my hometown, high school classmate of my parents, graduated from UM in the mid 70’s and later got involved in the music industry, became one of the co-founders of the EMP as well as an instructor in the program. Spoke with him at an all class reunion several years back and he said Seth wanted to start using Wa Griz for concerts more often….and here we are today👍🏼 He’s worked with Sting, Pearl Jam, many others and happened to give one of the VP’s at Live Nation their first job in the concert promotion industry. It’s amazing the favors he can call in….
Another UM grad from the 90’s (who once hired me when I was in high school to help set up stereos at a Radio Shack) runs a talent management business in Nashville and has some very prominent country music clients. He and a few others from that era all work in the music ndustry and used to be referred to as the “Montana Music Mafia”.

You're not wrong.

They have Mumford and Sons playing the Litter box. Word has it that ticket sales are stagnant due to pricing, so much so that MSU asked if they could lower prices and were told NO by band management. They're a month away and it sure looks like there's over half the tickets still available. It will be interesting to see how this goes.
