Looking at numbers; Hauck, Stitt, Hynson/Gragg

I think Stitt would be fine. It is your ability - personally as a recruiter - to get kids here. Yes you may go - in DII this is the prototypical type of kid we look at for QB, O-Line, etc but you just adjust the numbers for your division. Your personality and ability to showcase what you offer at UM will get kids to the school. There are just as many D-1 kids out there as there are at the D2 level.

 He certainly will be recruiting different athletes. The way tougher entrance requirements at Mines automatically puts him out toward the top end of the "bell curve" for grades and standardized test scores. In comparison, that's essentially not an issue in recruiting for UM. Still, it should be much easier to adjust to that than the other way around.
You're missing the point. The type of kids he's use to recruiting are the academic types, not exactly what we are use to seeing here at UM. Those kids choose places like UC Davis or Cal Poly. He has an advantage at a place like CSM for those type of kids.

Not that engineers can't be athletes, but just being able to qualify for admission to the school certainly narrows the talent pool.
Not really, lots of engineers are athletes. The students that are planning to be engineers CSM has a distinct advantage recruiting them. Stanford proves it every year. The student athletes that can qualify for a Stanford education will almost always choose Stanford over any other Pac 12 school. The same goes for northwestern in the big 10. It's the same concept in the BSC with Cal Poly and UC Davis vs Sac State or Portland State. No student athlete that will be accepted to UC Davis would choose Sac State. The high academic institutions are not hindered at recruiting. You just have to recruit different athletes and that worries me about Stitt. He would do well at UC Davis or Cal Poly but not so good at Montana, Weber State or Eastern Washington.

I work at an engineering company and not a one that I have met has played football.

What's missing here is ST

Hauck dominated on special teams and we have been average at best the last few years.
Don't know about Stitt but we need a special special team!

can you include standard error bars and significance (p<0.05) on your defensive stats graphs, when you get around to finishing them?

it would help to determine game-to-game variance level in the measures being used.

This is fantastic..sad part is that i understand it...haha

Whoever the new coach is, he will have to MAINTAIN the level of defense we have seen this year, and improve greatly on special teams and offense. I did like Haucks ST's and defenses. His teams also seemed to win the turnover battle. It should be interesting to see what the new HC and staff will look like in terms of game management and execution. I for one am excited for the future of GRIZ football!

Look at the roster of MSU, UC Davis or Cal poly. You are right though there are not a lot of engineers that play football but the ones that do are not going to come to UM. They are generally smart and play smart, coaching them is different as well. Most of them are academic first sports second kind of people. If you are use to recruiting engineers that play football it may not translate well to guys that are general ed and sociology majors essentially at the university just for athletics. It's why Bob Biggs was a great coach at UC Davis.

I've thought all along -- since we heard that Hauck was leaving UNLV -- that he should be able to latch onto a good deal as a ST coach at some 1-A program. And there are quite a few could use him, based on some of the games we've seen this year.

I'm sure he'll make an impact wherever he ends up. He is a better coach than some on this board post. Agree with you about a ST coach!

Pretty sure that Stitts won't have problems recruiting non-engineer majors...
