Logan Fife, Fresno State QB Commits

Those are all great points. But look at the returning receiving core we have. With addition of Grossman. Has to be the best in FCS and not even close. Loaded RB group. So do we need a running QB that is adequate passer or someone that can spread it around. I think Cliff will always be the guy that saved our season. But Griz might need more in the passing game to be dominant on offense. I think Ah Yat and Fife give us a better opportunity there.

I don't think anyone is suggesting Cliff should have already been anointed the 2024 starter. Like every position, there should be a competition and the best player starts. Maybe that'd been Cliff if he stayed. Maybe it's KAY. Maybe the transfer.

But i just cannot understand (I know you're not one of them, UR) anyone suggesting CMcD sucked. Dude carried us to the national damn championship.

While Cliff did a great job this year, he definitely didn't carry the Griz to the NC. He definitely helped us get there, but it was our defense coming in clutch every game that carried the team to the NC along with special teams and Cliff and the offense. But to say Cliff carried us and it's because of him we got there is ridiculous.

Did he regress? Or did he do what everyone did when facing the top defenses? Using that logic, NDSU's, Delaware's and Furman's QB's ALSO all regressed in the playoffs...heck, even Gronowski "regressed" when playing the Griz, compared to his season #'s.

UR I hope you are correct about Grossman. Coming back from injury can be tough. He’s had a lot of time to heal, but it still worries me. I do not question his talent for a second. Just recovery. I remember a certain running back who never really got back up to speed after a knee injury. Two different scenarios? Absolutely and I hope Grossman is back to full speed.

I'd say the fans and creating false starts made a hell of a difference too. We have to have home field in the playoffs next year.

Cliff carried the Griz to the playoffs and vs Furman. He didn't do well against NDSU and SDSU. That is all. if you don't think he carried the whole offense all year, you're delusional. Griz most likely wouldnt of even made the playoffs without him.

Cliff stabilized the offense, but the Griz season was all about defense and Bergen. Cliff gave everything he had and at best the offense was mediocre and did just enough to support the D.

The Griz advanced in the playoffs despite McDowell not playing very well. Bergen was my mvp. And the D including Gubner and Hill.

Was there another QB on the roster that was gonna get us there?

The answer to that is NO. Therefore, he carried us.

Maybe Ah Yat. 26-38. 68%. 10% better than McDowell. No picks. A slightly better QB rating than McDowell.

Right on as usual

I'd say the fans and creating false starts made a hell of a difference too. We have to have home field in the playoffs next year.

You're absolutely right, I completely forgot about the home field advantage factor. The fans in GRIZ stadium made all the difference in the world. Who knows how things would've turned out without our fans and stadium.

Yeah, who knows? This is my first season watching college football, so it was very surprising and interesting to me to see home teams getting an advantage. IDK how they determined that UM would host the playoff games. I guess if UM played worse during the regular season, they might’ve had to go on the road in the playoffs. Who knows, though?

I had multiple people standing behind me at the Chipper complaining about Cliff. Talking about how they don’t like him as a QB and how he “wasn’t good”.

All I did was turn back to them and said “he’s the only person to get us to this game in 15 years. Maybe ease up”

And they quit bitchinggg the rest of the game.
Were they talking to you? Why would you insert your own thoughts into another's conversation?

Because I was sick of their bitchinggg and negative energy while we were watching the Griz in the national title. And they may as well have been they were talking 3 feet behind my ear.

You know Bobby. Would he have Ah Yat sitting behind someone he was better than?

I'm not aware that Bobby ever has anyone sitting behind someone the player is better than. Just because a kid things he's the best, doesn't mean that he is. Why was Britt a 3d teamer at NAU last season, if he was the best qb at UM? Why did Stitt's qb only make it for a JC year and a few games before he disappeared? Is McDowell signed? If not, why not? Give me a Bergen and the transfer from Youngstown. My kind of players.

You know, it’s also interesting to think how the world would be if the Allies didn’t win WWII. Or if the USA hadn’t landed on the moon first. Or if we hadn’t cured smallpox.

But I guess all those things were done with dedication, hard work, and success. Kind of like the 2023 GRIZ season in many regards….

No, he didn’t carry us, but the change to Cliff at QB was the spark that turned the season around. It helped the Griz find their identity as a unit. We sustained drives like we hadn’t in years, and that, in turn made our defense stronger. After that, everything gradually fell into place week to week. I hope Cliff has a great finish to his college career.

Bobby’s job was never in jeopardy. The Griz saved McDowell’s career. And now McDowell has out his last year in jeopardy.
