Logan Fife, Fresno State QB Commits

He led us to the national title game. Period. No qualifiers.

I had multiple people standing behind me at the Chipper complaining about Cliff. Talking about how they don’t like him as a QB and how he “wasn’t good”.

All I did was turn back to them and said “he’s the only person to get us to this game in 15 years. Maybe ease up”

And they quit bitchinggg the rest of the game.

Set the tone with culture. Players stay.
Become a portal school and get gutted by the portal as well.

The culture is set by the coaches and dominated by all the MT kids. Transfers don't have to gut culture. It's way more than that.

UM has almost never lost any player that was playing, to the Portal. McDowell. Others who left who could have played, left because they didn't like their current playing situation.

Grad transfers and guys with only a year of eligibility aren't going to leave via the Portal.

About 4 of the top 8 o-linemen were transfers. I think the culture of the o-line was terrific, from what I understand.

UM has been getting more and more transfers in recent years, and the culture is still terrific.

I wonder what some players think, especially qb's, when a good player is brought in to compete with them. But, my view is that a good player could also be a true frosh and come in, or come back from injury. This is the new normal.

If a coach is not honest to a player, who has asked a specific question, that is different. I think Hauck has a reputation for frequently telling players they need to compete for the their position. He's been doing that, and sometimes to starters, for years. In any event, what coach is going to "honor" such a commitment, if the backup is clearly better? "Sorry, Cliff. We can't start you, because we told Sam he would start."

Great points, PR. I would add Toure and the punter to the list, but other than that it's been very very few...

And as far as your "injury" return point, I think we're going to see that this year with Grossman returning. Gonna probably see a LOT less of Shafer, Ashton, Barker and Olson with the offense. Will be interesting to see how they respond.

My take with Cliff is that we all saw his ceiling during the regular season run. He regressed in the playoffs. I don't think you would see Cliff play better in the future, but you could see him play worse. I had heard even before Cliff went portaling, that the coaches were leaving the competition wide open because they believe the Ah Yat has a higher ceiling which would make the offense more dynamic. That said, all these people piling on Cliff need to STFU, the young man gave everything he had on that field.

Griz Addict, you make some good points but pulling the race card on an assumption is just moronic…

It's because of the person that's making the comment and consistently bashes one player based on nothing other than personal bias. I'm having a hard time figuring out why he's biased, other than the obvious reason. I rarely ever pull a race card. But, when I see a spade, I call it a spade.

And let's not act like racism isn't a huge problem in Montana, because it is. Very well known, with one of the higher amounts of hate groups in the country. And that's a fact.

Did he regress? Or did he do what everyone did when facing the top defenses? Using that logic, NDSU's, Delaware's and Furman's QB's ALSO all regressed in the playoffs...heck, even Gronowski "regressed" when playing the Griz, compared to his season #'s.

Those are all great points. But look at the returning receiving core we have. With addition of Grossman. Has to be the best in FCS and not even close. Loaded RB group. So do we need a running QB that is adequate passer or someone that can spread it around. I think Cliff will always be the guy that saved our season. But Griz might need more in the passing game to be dominant on offense. I think Ah Yat and Fife give us a better opportunity there.

I don't think anyone is suggesting Cliff should have already been anointed the 2024 starter. Like every position, there should be a competition and the best player starts. Maybe that'd been Cliff if he stayed. Maybe it's KAY. Maybe the transfer.

But i just cannot understand (I know you're not one of them, UR) anyone suggesting CMcD sucked. Dude carried us to the national damn championship.

Totally agree. I thoroughly enjoyed his play. Honestly, something did change as playoffs progressed... he plataeud against the elite defenses. To his detriment, he won't have the off season to build chemistry and refine his skill and ability within the same offense and teammates. I wish him the best, and likewise fired up for Logan and Key and others to battle it out through winter condo, spring ball, summer player only, and with all the weapons we'll have our offense is going to be nasty 💪💪💪

SDSU & NDSU don’t win it all with transfers.
If you wanna be the best it’s time to start building a program like the best.

Yet.

Yet. 8 of the last 10 Titles have been won by SDSU or NDSU.
Most kids alive never experienced a Montana Title, heck we are only 2-6 in title games in the last 40 years.
It's time to make some changes to compete, no dominate the MVFC schools.

And 15 years ago the national championship was synonymous with "Montana". This stuff can by cyclical.
And now we're back. Hell, we beat one of those teams you're praising to get to the damn game.

Just STFU and enjoy it. Or go root for the bubs. But in either event, stop your damn trolling.

Do you actually read what you post to make sure it doesn't go against your initial point?

Were they talking to you? Why would you insert your own thoughts into another's conversation?
