Minnesota also grabbed the New Hampshire QB, it's assumed he was in front of Fife. They also just had some reports out of Minnesota that head coach Fleck leads a "toxic culture"

Interesting tidbit about PJ… I’m not mad, just surprised. I also follow absolutely NO Minnesota football.

I think it was The Athletic that had an amazing article about it. Maybe have been ESPN. But it was creepy. Gave the kids a binder with new alternate meanings for some words and expected them to be used. He had some response that was required any time he asked a player how they were doing. Required a certain level of applause when he walked in the room, and if it wasn't loud enough the HC would yell at everyone, leave the room, and come back in expecting a bigger cheer. It felt more like a cult than a culture.

Why don’t we develop our own? Can’t believe that the skats can do this and we can’t.

Why not have/get the best we can? Why would we want to be like the Cats?

In 2022, half of FBS starters were transfers. More in 2023, I believe

Coming into 2023 season in Power 5, over 60% were transfers.

Why don't players still wear leather helmets? The Cats used to.

bubs recruit a running back to play a running back disguised as a QB doesn't count as developing a QB. Also, in the current college landscape, developing a quality QB isn't necessary and might just be a negative return on your investment.

Statistics are against you.
Develop talent and grow the program.

You are in the first couple years of complete change within the system, the statistics are of little value.

Thank god we have a staff that can do both. Huot, Ah Yat, and Flowers to grow with the program, and an older guy with experience to bring in to compete with them. Look where we were when Hauck and his merry band came back, and quit searching for things to be mad about.

We want the best player on the field. Period. Full stop. I don't care how old they are.

Nope. Stats are against you and continuing to grow against you.

I think we are with Ah Yat and with Flowers coming in. But when you lose an older QB to the portal then it makes good sense to bring one in. Bobby loves competition and this provides that as well as a potential starter or very solid depth. I feel as good about QB depth now as I have in a decade with the Griz.

I'm surprised Huot/Vidlak are still sitting in that QB room, not upset about it tho!

In this day and age it is prudent to bring in a drop-down quarterback. An FCS program can do an exemplary job of developing a young QB and watch him have early success only to lose him to a FBS program who makes him a better offer and/or provides the opportunity to play at a higher level of competition. Ah Yat is a perfect example although his father's ties to the program might keep him around regardless of how successful he might be next season. It's going to be interesting to watch it all shake out.

Vidlak is on his 3rd school. He is married and probably figures I will stay here work hard see what happens and get degree.

Development is going to get tougher imo. But 3 of the 4 Heisman Finalists were transfers, its new football world

Some people are just living in the past. The portal has changed things. You can sit around and whine about it or you can get with the program and use it to your advantage. Our coaches are doing the latter.

Spot on and Bobby has said so. He said you used to create and develop a team and build for the future. In a few different interviews, he has now said you still try to do that but now you also have to use the portal and build for the best team you can put on the field for that one given year and start over.

He needs to clean up on the Turnovers pretty badly but if he can get that ironed out he could compete for the starting job. Lots of upside with him and if Minnesota wanted him we potentially got a steal.

Stats from 2021-2023: 143-224 for 1585 yards, 6 TD 9 Int

Go look at the scats QB passing yards, McDowell passed for more yards than Mellot and Chambers did, combined. Tell me how great the cats are again...

You're clearly an undercover cat lover

Fife is an upgrade from McDowell.

That's yet to be seen. I honestly doubt it. McDowells passing wasn't the greatest but, he could run like a mfer n plow dudes over, he was an amazing leader, and played with a ton of heart/fire. That kind of heart mixed with the swagger is extremely hard to find at the fcs level. McDowell had 1 loss as a starter here and that was the championship. McDowell was a stud for us. Will be harder to replace than a lot of you think.
