Re: Press Conference

When he said THE MONTANA STATE UNIVERISTY it sent chills down my spine. I'm pumped! We certainly have the right guy.
He pronounced "university" "univeristy?" That would have sent chills down my spine too as in OMG.

It already is. I thought you guys were supposed to be good at math.

Ash got a lot of attention here too, and we all know how well he did in the Brawl!

According to the Billings Gazette Brian Armstrong the head coach at Rocky is going to MSU to be Choate's O line coach.

Is the Russian lad MIA?

Good question. I wonder if Cramsie will get the shaft.
I thought it was interesting during the conference when ol' Hal noted that he "thought it went well," or something to that effect, when he met the players. Has he lost control of that locker room?

He is also bringing in Matt Miller, one heck of a player from Montana. Should be good for recruiting too. He is also retaining Kane Iaone as a position coach. Another excellent recruiter.

That's what I was thinking when I saw that press conference. It's like, hey, have you guys ever done this before? There were maybe four people who asked questions, one of which had some sort of speech impediment, and then no other questions, so he had to kind of oddly slink away. Easily one of the most awkward introductions I've ever seen.

Matt Miller? The Bosie guy?? Has he even coached anywhere??

Legit question (no smack): If Iaone is supposedly an excellent recruiter (he may well be, I don't really know), why is your defense consistently so shitty?

IMHO, I think Choate is making smart moves with Armstrong and Ioane. Just surprised Armstrong would give up his gig at Rocky, but the guy has a lot of Montana recruiting connections, that's for certain.

I believe Miller has two years as Grad Assistant. The defense has some excellent young players. That was the problem, they were very young last year. Grant Collins will be a great one. Iaone has brought in some good players, offense and defense.

Uhhh, how, exactly, is a GA going to greatly impact recruiting? :?

And honest answer: do you believe you have athletes on defense with the skill levels (from RS to 5th year seniors) that even measure up to even the middle tier of the bsc? Because what I saw was a tremendous lack of speed, athleticism, and basic defensive fundamentals. Yes, perhaps the fundamentals can improve (although that's asking a great deal), but the skill levels simply aren't there.

I don't know Matt's exact role but he does have a lot of recognition and connections in the State along with Choate, Iaone and Armstrong.

I will let the new coach evaluate the talent we have. I do believe we have some good young players there that made mistakes and it wasn't a matter of talent. Strong, Collins, Braun, Bignell, Yates to name a few.

Everybody has some good young players. I just don't see how anyone can be anointed a great recruiter when the players he recruits and coaches rank statistically near the bottom in the nation.

He has not recruited ALL the players. You would need to look at the ones that he has recruited specifically. His reputation as a recruiter is excellent amongst his peers.

Apparently if you know a lot of people and drink beer with a lot of Montanans you're a top notch recruiter. I'm going to have to add that to my resume.
