Tonight Damian Lillard became only the third player in NBA History to have 20+ points and 10 assists in their NBA debut.

Who are the other two on the list? Oscar Robertson and Isaiah Thomas

He did have a lot of turnovers, would have to agree that is a great debut, congrats to DL, hope he continues to be successful in the big boy league. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

23 points, 11 assists and going 8-8 from the foul line. Not a bad start. He will get used to the regular season pace pretty quick which, IMO, will cut down his turnovers. Nice start for him :thumb:

That's awesome...for him to be mentioned in the same category with those two players really says something! That's great for him, Weber State and the Big Sky Conf!

Damian is as good of a kid as he is a basketball player. I've read article after article praising his character and work ethic. So happy to see him having success. He's earned it. And thanks for the support, Griz fans. Your hoops fans are a classy bunch. You are right, Damian represents not only Weber but the whole conference as well. And he does it very well. All hail Lillard!

The first regular-season look at the 2012-13 Trail Blazers was an eye-opener. There was very little not to like in Portland’s resounding 116-106 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers Wednesday night at the Rose Garden. ... This season is about development of young players as much as victories for Portland, but Lillard — taken out of Weber State with the sixth pick in the 2012 draft — was all about production Wednesday night. The 6-3 point guard scored 23 points, dished out 11 assists and gave more than he got from Laker veterans Nash and Steve Blake. Lillard joined Oscar Robertson and Isiah Thomas as the only players in NBA history with at least 20 points and 10 assists in his debut.“Damian called the offense and made shots when he had to,” said Aldridge, who scored 12 of his 19 points in the first quarter. “He had a double-double — that’s always big in this league. He played great tonight.” “He can score, pass, play defense, shoot 3s, penetrate — the balance of his game is really good,” Batum said. “He was the engine,” said Matthews, who made 7 of 11 shots from the field, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range. “He pushed the tempo, and we all fed off that. And there were times when he fed off us.” Lillard — who was 7 for 17 from the field and 8 for 8 from the line — saw it that way, too.

... coverage of Damian Lillard's regular season debut with the Trail Blazers last night:

The kid has 'it,' plain and simple
Jason Quick, The Oregonian: I don’t know how many are ready to say this is, or will be, a great team, but I know many are ready to vouch for Lillard becoming a great point guard. The kid has “it,” plain and simple. When he has the ball in his hands, you don’t take your eyes off the court for fear of missing the next great play. He has a smooth jumper. Turbo speed around the corner. And vision that would make Superman blush. ... There were some flaws - six turnovers, some forced jumpers - but overall, it was the type of performance that steals the heart of this passionate fan base. By Nov. 23, when Brandon Roy flies into town with Minnesota, Lillard might have already healed those broken hearts.

Lillard sparkles
Joe Freeman, The Oregonian: The rookie from Weber State recorded a double double in his debut game, finishing with 23 points and 11 assists, as he flashed polish and poise beyond his years. ... So impressive, in fact, that by the end of the night, the No 6 overall pick from June’s NBA Draft earned at least one reason to be compared to the game’s best player, LeBron James. Lillard became the first player to finish with at least 21 points and nine assists in his first NBA game since James did so nine seasons ago on Oct. 29, 2003. He also joined Oscar Robertson and Isiah Thomas as the only players in NBA history to record at least 20 points and 10 assists in their NBA debuts.

The new mayor of Rip City
John Canzano, The Oregonian: (I)t should be noted that if Lillard decided to announce his candidacy for mayor in next Tuesday's election, I have no doubt that Charlie Hales and Jefferson Smith would end up deadlocked, in a 1-1 tie, and find themselves in a run-off for second place. Lillard already owns a little piece of Portland. Gobbled it up, one dribble at a time while the city's jaw was dropped.

Lilliard has real shot to be rookie of the year
Eric Pincus, Los Angeles Times: As a young team, the Trail Blazers have a lot to prove over 82 games, but at this point in the season they're a bunch of hungry, athletic kids who don't know they're not the best team in the league. Damian Lillard has a real shot to be rookie of the year. He had 23 points and 11 assists, which was a great start even with six turnovers.

I was always impressed with the way he carried himself on and off the basketball floor. He always seemed thoughtful and intelligent in interviews, and came across as a team player. Class act. I'm glad he's with the Blazers now so we don't have to play against him. :)

EVERYONE needs to watch the "Licence To Lillard". Series of videos on YouTube. Behind the scenes and interviews of him training for the draft and the upcoming season. There is some college stuff too. VERY well done. Lillard is the man

Here is the first episode. The fourth one jut came out

Another stellar game by DL. Has cut the to's, upped the fg%, avg 9 dimes and 4 boards, 3-6 from 3 tonight.

The NBA lost me with the Alan Iversonification of the game after I loved the mid 90s Sonics. He appears to be the antithesis of this. :thumb: :thumb:

A Blazer squad that seems to lack star power is off to a good start and DL seems to be part of it. :thumb: :thumb:

Question for those of you that follow the league closely, how will he stack up against some of the more physical pgs like Deron Williams?

I saw him knife through the entire Griz D many times last spring and my buddy and I speculated how he would do on the next level, he always looked so smooth and under control. We wondered how that would translate. Question answered at this point. Congrats to DL and I'll actually be looking out for when he is on TV instead of waiting until May to care. Best of luck to a great kid.

This just shows how impressive it was when Cherry shut-out Lillard. Cherry has NBA-like defensive skills if Lilliard has NBA-caliber offensive skills. 2-11 3 pointers one game and 11-23 from the field the next vs. Cherry.

here's another article about Lilliard, seems like he's doing well in Portland:

No chance. Anthony Davis is the best NBA prospect since Lebron James. Next level

The expert (and voters on nba.com) disagree:
http://www.nba.com/rookie-ladder/

#1 - Lillard
#2 - Waiters
#3 - Davis

The guy has a lot of good things to say about Lillard, and up until recently seemed to think that it was a 2 man race for the best rookie (between Lillard and Davis).

It could be that Davis ends up as the top rookie, but I wouldn't be surprised if Lillard ends up as rookie of the year. They both are kicking ass in the NBA so far.

Oh I agree. What I was getting at was don't rule Lillard out and just hand the trophy to Davis :P
