Lights

Slightly off topic, but I sat through a presentation from Musco Lighting a few years back. Musco does a lot of baseball fields, not sure about football. The way they break it down is amazing; the entire field is broken down into 1 square inch segments and a program scans the grid to make sure every segment receives an adequate amount of candle power light. And of course there is a digital check system built to monitor the light output for continuous coverage.

Nother pic. When I took this, they were halfway done with the 3rd pole....8 in all. This is the 2nd completed light pole.

OldtiredGriz.....I overheard them saying that the top of the lightpole can't be more than 1 foot out of position. Something about messing up the crossing light beams and losing lumens. There is a laser on the top that helps them to aim it during installation. Not sure if the U is going for this option, but they can connect the whole system to the net and know if anything is out of alignment or a light is out.

From my research it is apparent that crossing light beams is not good....

Poles and lights have arrived and are being put together on East Campus Drive. Each pole is in 3 pieces and when I left they had 1st 110 foot pole assembled with Electrical boxes and light rails. Plan is for them to start lifting the poles onto the bases on Thursday. This is one of two semi trailers with the goods.

Looks like theyre putting up the second set according to the Grizzly Athletics facebook page.

I posted on the Griz sight about the lights needing to shine on something else too, and I got censored. Not once but twice. So much for freedom of expression at the U of M. Censorship is totally classless and violates every principle of open free speach that a great university should stand for.

By the looks of the pictures the lights look great! I was assuming they were just putting lights in the 4 corners like they have done in the past with the temp lights. Having more lights around the stadium will be great & I cannot wait to attend the first night game under the new lights!
