LadyGriz LG vs Weber State

How much was being in fowl trouble a factor?

Looks like 2 fouled out. Kind of surprised uou lost to Weber though they have been playing much better as of late.

Things just keep getting worse for this team. Has Harris lost the team?
I think most of the players may have so much confidence that Harris may not be able to turn the team around. Losing can do that. The past 2 games I believe are the worst two games I have watched this year. Harris has changed the line up both games. Didn't help. His substitution pattern also changed during the past 2 games. Also didn't help. He started to use a full court press in both games. First game it was way too late. This game, maybe Weber state saw it and prepared for it. Lady Griz do not have the depth to play a full court press the entire game like MSU. Depth takes a lot of time to develop. So, Harris is trying to do something to turn this thing around, but after all of the lost games, it may be too late for this year.

Lady Griz do not have enough players that shoot very well. Ehrman is the best 3 point shooter and is averaging about the percentage that Sonya Rogers shot as a freshman. She is also the best shooter overall.
Waddington and Konig are the only other players averaging over 40% overall but both are shooting worse than they did half way through the conference.

Macy Donarski shot really well from the 3 point line during non-conference, but didn't shoot very many times which is strange. If your shooting well keep shooting because you may lose it. She lost it. But based on the past 6 or so games she shooting at a higher average from inside the key than Wacker who has been averaging less than 30% from the 3 point line and inside of it. Overall, she is 30.8% overall and 27.8% from the point line. So we have two guards, one doesn't shoot often but doesn't shoot well. Another guard shoots a lot but makes very few baskets. Which one do you choose. Harris is starting the one that doesn't shoot very many times because of her defense. But she committed a lot of fouls this week because, as I watched her, she was trying to defend everyone. And, some of those fouls she barely touched the player. The refs the past two games called the games way to close. I think Donarski was the only one trying to play defense today.

Aby Shubert shot very well last year but seems to have lost her shot.

Anyway, Waddington and Ehrman are the players you have to make sure you don't lose for next season.

The last time we beat them away by one point 51-50, big mystery then we were without Konig, Avery made 20 points. My theory anecdotal as may seem: Without Konig we were developing some better play, a synergy of sorts. We had Avery more out front, seemed to pass the ball around better. What I noticed since Konig came back....ball goes to Konig more often at top, less passes or plays and shots by others, including Avery. More shots by Konig, very inconsistent completions, plenty of forced dribble drives to the hoop. Oh well, we stuck with Weber this time!

Have the Lady Griz won a game since Konig returned from injury?

I truthfully think you're on to something.

And this is by no means a slight on Mack. Love Mack. I may be a Cat fan but for WBB there are certain players around the league I really like to watch play. Mack. Benthe. Of course I miss the F out of Natalie. Billie at Weber. Several at Eastern. Spink. Just realized I named all point guards.

Without looking uo the numbers I feel like Mack was more of a distributor last year. She could score of course. But Avery went for more. Dani scored. MJ didn't really score alot but she had her games. When Mack was out you had someone distributing the ball alot more?

Also noticed during Cat/Griz Mack played off ball quite a bit. Has she continued to do so since?

Yes generally more flow to the game, Avery drew the defense out front on point, opened up options to shoot, dribble drive and/or dish. Lately we seem to set up the offense, Mack out front, guards passing on shots getting ball back to Mack, Avery predominately posted up against the bigs. Our dilemma is not much depth big/paint, and our shooting is very inconsistent not a great match for the 5-out offense plan. Other teams pick apart our defense, active screen outs that create mismatches and /or open avenues to the basket. Here is an observation that's just weird, I noticed when some of our players make bad moves, basically screw up, there's a laugh goofy smile, most players including coaches would be livid. Our team has not given up, they do hustle, they surprise us when are locked, loaded and consistent!

Avery is making about the same amount of shots a game from when Konig was gone compared to her return (5.1 when gone, 5.5 after return). She is shooting at a 41% clip since her return, and was shooting 54% when she was gone. So she was making a higher % when she was out. I don't think her coming back is the issue... They are in the bottom 3 of scoring Defense , 3 Point defense , Scoring margin, and Rebounding. It is easy to look at shooting and Offense as a reason teams struggle, but it isn't the reason this year... In My Opinion.

I do believe offense has been off and on, some of the players have some shot stats incomparable to playing against the very same team, LG is a quirky bunch. For example, our play against ISU, we beat them away w/o Konig, https://gogriz.com/sports/womens-basketball/stats/2025-26/idaho-state/boxscore/6348 lost at home with Konig. https://gogriz.com/sports/womens-basketball/stats/2025-26/idaho-state/boxscore/6354 We beat them away w/o Mack, (not saying this is causal, just an observation), a couple of our players , Wacker 15pts, Ehrman 21pts. At home we lost to ISU these same players Wacker 6pts, Ehrman 1pt. With Konig back 26 min 9pts. Defense does factor into the game, but when the ball goes in the hoop more often...we win! Current standings ISU 11-5, LG 4-11 Conference, So maybe just a coincidence, but we beat ISU and Weber on away games w/o Konig. We lost to both of these teams at home with Konig.
