LadyGriz LG vs Cats

I hate seeing Lady Griz lose like this. But damn Binford is a good coach. All these players buy in defensively. It’s very impressive.

They could be a competative naia team. Hopefully whoever is in charge of recruiting has an awakening and looks at real talent instead of political or legacy signings. But, with a couple recent signings i dont think its going to happen.

I’m curious as to opportunities she has had and turned down. Waiting for the right fit or happy to stay with a low mid-major and a good quality of life? I had always assumed she would be one to challenge herself if the right opportunity arose.

If Boise State ever opened that would be a spot she would choose. Believe she turned down U of Washington a few yrs back or at least was in the mix.

I doubt anyone on this board expected a lady Griz victory. Multiple reasons that have been addressed ad nauseam so no need to revisit them.
I was only able to watch 2nd half but I will say the ladies never quit. They played their hearts out and deserve credit for that. What happened to Koenig, was she out sick?
Binford has put together a very impressive program. Their tenacity on defense and bench depth is a tribute to her and her staff.
I never root for the cats but assuming they win the conference I could see them making some noise in the tournament.

I honestly thought this was our best game against the cats this season and that was without Konig and Waddington. Nate Harris better get busy recruiting. We got a month until the portal opens so go high school recruiting for now, and then hit the portal hard. Need an elite PG and a C.
If all the players that are eligible for next season return, then there won't be any players coming from the portal.

So from now until the portal opens, Harris will need to figure out which players he wants to keep for next season and let the others go somewhere else. There may be some players that want to leave which would kind of make it easier for him.
He really needs to improve the athleticism of the team.

As for this game, I agree with you. If I knew Konig was going to be out and we'd only have Waddington for 6 minutes, I would have thought this would be a 40+ blowout instead of losing by 21.

Spot on. Have some tough conversations and upgrade the athletisism. Lady cats are good,. Chirrick has to be getting a ton of nudging from big programs. She is way too good to stay in the Big Sky.

I hope Nate takes time this offseason, if he didn't last offseason and if Rob is amenable, to meet weekly/monthly with Rob Selvig and Eric Hays and go to school on coaching basketball.

Then take a week and come to Minnesota and meet with Niko Medved and staff to learn more about 4 out/5 out offenses and meet with Dave Thorson to learn about defenses.

I have found through coaching basketball that subtraction can be addition

I've always wondered about this as well. I think for the first decade or so of her career at MSU, Coach Binford had some good teams and did well enough to keep her job. But at the same time she struggled to get out of the massive shadow of Robin Selvig, just like pretty much every other Big Sky WBB Coach during those decades when he and the Lady Griz dominated the Big Sky most of the time aside from a few flashes from other teams once in a while. By the time she started winning championships and presumably started drawing more interest from bigger schools, she and her family had become entrenched in the Bozeman community. Not just her but her husband as well, who is the co-owner of a local laundromat/car wash business and I believe is or has been involved in other business ventures. I'm not sure exactly how old her kids are but I think they're getting pretty close to both being out of high school, I'd imagine that continuity for her family and not moving around a bunch like some coaches do either by choice or by necessity has also been quite desirable. And she also makes the same salary as the men's head coach at MSU, which has to be very rare in D-1 basketball.

I think bingford knows basketball for the most part, she gets what she can get and does what she can with what she gets. BUT, i do believe the weakness of the big sky makes her look better than she probably is. She isnt perfect and has fallen victim to a few political signings as well. When they do face real competition it does show. This years team cant shoot as always, they are actually atrocious and it will show. Alot of their players lack good fundamental basketball skills as well as iq and awareness. The big sky is WEAK, everyone will just not say it. There are several players overlooked in the state as well as the ones that "got away", montana specifically is in a state of "good ole boys" nobody says a word atleast not out loud. Just sign the best in state players from the start, quit playing games.
