LadyGriz LG Versus University of Idaho

Third ranked team in the conference, beat us by 13 pts earlier this month, earlier this month lost to top ranked Cats by 3 pts. We are coming off two wins at home, against lower ranked teams. This team appears to almost look like a renewed team, with marked up tempo play on all levels. Sitting coaching staff have implemented a game plan and wholesome utilization of players whose broad and individual talents are apparent. Go LG!!! Here is the low down for the conference: https://bigskyconf.com/standings.aspx?path=wbball

My first assessment is that this is a very tough task for a re-structured coaching staff that's prepping for its 3rd game in 5 days against a team that essentially owned the paint vs. the GrizWBB team... on offense and defense. Plus, Montana shot a ghastly 38% from the field, 28% from beyond the arc.

Conversely, it might be a perfect game for Harris & his coaching crew to demonstrate a game plan that this team can provide results vs. the Big Sky's third place team... on the road. Regardless, they'll have to contain the Vandals' outstanding young point guard to turn the tables. I actually am very curious to see how the coaches and the team respond. Go GrizWBB!

Ladies are hitting the boards. Lots of 2nd and 3rd chance shots but not following. Love the ladies hustle. Down 10 at half but I still think we have a good effort so far. Down 14-0 to start but have been as close as 4. It will all start on the defensive end. GO LADIES

Tough shooting day for the ladies. We got a lot of open looks and outrebounded them, just wasn't falling for us. Idaho plays really fundamental ball and runs their offense to perfection. Play great team defense as well.. They are undersized buy play much bigger. I am going to tell myself things are moving in the right direction and we'll continue to improve.

GrizWBB played Idaho to a statistical standoff on rebounds, assists, turnovers, steals & free throws. The game was clearlly decided on field goal shooting percentage of open shots at 28%. I counted five missed open layups in the fourth quarter alone. Puzzling, because these players have proven to be good shooters.

The kids battled, played as a team and showed some solid improvement in forcing turnovers. I'm optimistic. Once the team settles into its new coaches and -- most likely -- new game-management and subbing routine, this is clearly a team that has the ability to play with every Big Sky team except perhaps the Bobcats (hate to say that on this board, but the Cats appear dominant.) Go GrizWBB.

Saturday should be a great indication of your last statement. If the LG compete and play well vs a quality staff and opponent in the Cats, we could agree.

If they lay an egg vs MSU and again vs NAU then we would question the ability you mentioned they potentially have.

The league is a 2 way race between NAU and MSU with Idaho in the mix and a HC that came into a HC job in a crazy situation as well. Arthur has done a fantastic job of putting his stamp on that program since the bizarre depture of that former staff.

Until LG beat one of these 3 this year nothing will have really changed with yrs past.

Stats for the game: https://gogriz.com/sports/womens-basketball/stats/2024-25/idaho/boxscore/5984

The shooting, just not there...definitely an off game, some of the shots hitting the front of the rim, missed lay ups, and an air ball. I'm always surprised with Dani 33 min, 2/10 FG, 2/9 3pt, 8 pts...what is with that? Tyler MC 21 min, 1/11 FG, 1/4 3pts? But otherwise in other games, we do much better shooting, why I don't know. Guessing a practice with pressure shooting, nothing but shooting might help???

My guess is fatigue (front rim shots, air balls) - it happens. You see it a lot a the Big Sky Tourney too.

I agree.
I'd add that I believe shooting percentage and consistency of proven college-level athletes is an arena that most coaches believe they are responsible for by -- as Nate Harris acknowledged in an earlier interview this week -- putting each player into good spots. Men's Griz assistant coach Chris Cobb has repeatedly said in interviews that a top priority of coaches is to integrate players into a team offense in those areas on the floor where they shoot (& otherwise play) best. I don't want to simplify this too much, because it also has to do with other aspects of a player's ability (lateral movement, ball handling, passing, etc.).
