LG v. Temple

Inside presence (rebounding!) doomed chances for LG

UM good BSC team but competing with a team predicted to finish 9th in its respective conference gives pause to consider our place in national competition.

I believe we have excellent chance of post season unfortunately one and done again

The LG could have won this game. Not saying they deserved to win, as they didn't play well enough. Temple came out fired up in the second half, when LG were down 1, and started taking it to the LG. Temple wasn't tall or wide, but they were quick.

LG didn't shoot well. Have missed open looks. Had missed bunnies. The LG needed to knock down and convert on more of those. LG were outrebounded badly, 52-38, but the defensive rebounds were much closer. The problem was that Temple crashed the offensive boards hard, were quick, and the refs allowed Temple to be physical on the offensive boards. 20-11 advantage for Temple on offensive boards. No. 10 had 16 boards, including 8 offensive boards. She scored 17, mostly off of her missed shots on drives.

Selvig and Cole couldn't make a bucket. Rickman didn't have her normal strong game and didn't play as much. Sims and Feller were good off the bench, and each played over 20 minutes.

Temple had a nice full-court zone press. UM handled the ball fairly well, but were forced into some mistakes and made some bad passes. Temple got a few wide open looks for 3's and knocked them down at key times.

Sullivan and 16 points and 11 rebounds, including 6 on the offensive end. Hill had 2 3's, including a very long one. Only 1 turnover in 32 minutes.

I like this team. Have some young players who will improve as the season progresses. Have some quickness and outside shooting. Fairly deep. Lots of potential.

The 3 refs as a group were consistently bad. Inconsistent calls, missed calls, bad calls.

I agree. This LG team probably isn't good enough to win an NCAA game.

as player rep pointed out, temple wasn't tall or wide, but they were quick. ever since john wooden said it and practised it, i've believed that quickness is the single most important attribute in any sport.

whether you agree with that or not, you must agree that quickness is the one attribute that has always restrained the lady griz, especially against elite teams, and always in post-season competition.

i further believe this is the reason the ladies go into these horrific shooting slumps. all teams do, but the ladies don't have the quickness to get easy open-court shots, or to have that player that can get a shot on her own.

we have just recruited in alyssa sims a player that i believe will develop into a premier post player. carly selvig and jordan sullivan are sturdy up front, and it appears that kayleigh valley will be a rebounding terror once she adjusts to the college game.

but until we reruit a super quick point guard, a la a will cherry or a mario dunn, to run the show and get us that open-court basket, the ladies will always be good, but always with glass ceiling.
