LG Seed/Opponent?

I would guess they get a 14th or 15th seed.

considering the ESPN brackotolgists already have us at a 13 seed i can only see us going up after a 101-65 win.

True enough, I hope you are right. Also, if they actually look at it, which I doubt they will, it wouldn't help how the LG had their collapse in the tourney last year and a poor showing in the WNIT.

Then again, I would hope this game would clear any notion of that happening again.

ESPN bracketology has the Lady Griz a 13 seed playing against Utah; this was updated on 3/16/08 at 1:45 EST.

The nice thing about Creme's ESPN Bracketology is that if you don't like what what he has posted, at least you know it WILL be wrong :-) I don't know how accurate men's tourney forecasts are, but the women's tourney projected brackets are really wildly inaccurate.

The selection committee has said many times that they do take into account how a team finishes out the season. This is mostly reflected with "name" teams getting a lower seed than they think they deserve, after they tank in their conference tourney. It would be real nice to see the Lady Griz benefit from it, though, as they certainly finished the season emphatically.

the most important thing that matters is what these people think:

The selection committee (year term expires):
Judy Southard (09) - LSU - Chair
Tina Cheatham (10) - Southland Conf
Richard Ensor (11) - MAAC
Heather Gores (12) - Gonzaga
Marilyn McNeil (11) - Monmouth
Jane Meyer (10) - Iowa
Lisa Parker (09) - Boise St
James Phillips (12) - Northern Illinois
Jaclyn Silar (10) - Duke
Camden Wood Selig (11) Western Kentucky

And the rules they have to follow in selecting, seeding, and placing the teams are described here:

Jay Bilas was on ESPN yesterday commenting about the selection committee. He said that 6 of the 10 committee members on this years Mens Selection Committee had NO basketball experience. He used an analogy of imagine if 10 people were brought together to select the 65 best doctors in the country, but 6 of the 10 had NO medical experience. He said that is why the selection process to him is so screwed up and why each year there are deserving teams left out. I think he makes a good point.

Alright, so lets take a quick look at the losses the Lady Griz have had this year:

Boise St: 23-7 overall, lost the conference tourney in the championship game, but won the regular season.

Gonzaga: 24-8 overall, also lost their tourney in the title game, did win the regular season.

Wyoming: 24-6 overall, ranked 25th in the nation. Wyoming lost the tourney championship game after finishing 3rd in a very tough conference.

And then the 3 conference losses: ISU (20-9), PSU (22-9), MSU (18-13).

Unfortunatley those conference losses, especially the loss to MSU probably hurts the Lady Griz in the selection committee's eyes. Looking at how they finished I'd think that the three non-conf teams that beat the LG are going to the tourney, or NIT at the worst case.

Especially when two members of the committee are from schools the Lady Griz lost to this season...

Or maybe it means nothing. I would still guess a 12-13 seed is probably realistic-

I also went and looked at who the LG beat before the conference started, unfortunatley most of the "big name" schools they beat had horrible years, Wash St, Richmond, Oregon St, Mississippi & Idaho all had pretty poor seasons. The only quality win was beating UCSB who finished 23-7 and got their conference autobid to the tourney.

Gonzaga may get in the tournament but Charlie Creme doesn't think so. Boise State will not. WAC in women's basketball is pretty much a 1 bid conference. It was ranked just below the Big Sky Conference in RPI. Boise State will likely be at the NIT. the rep from Boise cannot help Boise because she has to step out of the room when the committee considers (if) her school as an at-large.

But, since the Boise State loss was the first game of the season, I do not think it will hurt the Lady Griz so much as the losses to Gonzaga and Wyoming. If Lady Griz had Mandy healthy, Wyoming would have been a win instead of a loss. Lady Griz were up in that game with around 10 minutes left in the game. Of course, even that fact won't help the Lady Griz seeding.

Lady Griz did finish strong, and the Big Sky Conference was ranked 19th in RPI, which isn't bad (better than the WAC anyway).

on collegerpi.com, Lady Griz jumped from 69 to 64 in RPI rankings.

I figure Lady Griz should be seeded higher than any of the automatic bids from the conferences ranked lower than the Big Sky. Considering some of the conference champions from conferences ranked just above Big Sky may have lost their conference tournaments, will certainly help Lady Griz jump higher in seedings.

Gonzaga lost their conference tournament championship, but I think they will get in. But losing the championship may cost them seeding. collegerpi had Gonzaga a 13th seed last week but it's site isn't up to date for today yet. It had Montana 14th seed. I am thinking once collegerpi.com updates it, Lady Griz will move up a seed to 13th seed.

Charlie Creme has Gonzaga next four out. But, Charlie Creme still has Montana 13th seed.

With luck, hopefully, some of the committee will move some teams down, and Lady Griz up. Lady Griz are better then the 2005 team in my opinion and should be seeded the same. 12th seed, but I still predict 13th seed.

this is a wild dream.

Lady Griz win two Sub-regionals and reach the Spokane Regional. That would be cool. No need to worry about any charter to Spokane. But, for that to happen and be seeded anywhere from 10th to 15th seed, they would have to play in a sub-regional located Bridgeport, CT, Baton Rouge, LA, or College Park, MD. A charter certainly would help for getting to the sub-regional. Stanford is hosting the 1 vs 16th seed and 8th vs 9th seed that will feed into the Spokane Regional.

My dream is still alive. Lady Griz will be in Spokane Regional if they can just win two sub-regional games.

Lady Griz lost to Vanderbilt in 2005 67 - 44 in 1st round of ncaa tournament.

Cote, Clossen, and Conway and the coaches should certainly have some familiarity with them. So maybe it will be closer or have a chance to win.

From looking at bracket, looks like 4 vs 13 seed in spokane bracket will play at Old Dominion. So, whoever goes to the game can visit with Blaine Taylor.
