Lady Griz fall to Florida Gulf Coast

PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico -- Poor shooting again doomed the University of Montana women's basketball team, which fell 68-52 to Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday in the team's final game of the Caribbean Challenge.

The Lady Griz shot just 31.5 percent, and went 6 for 34 (.176) from 3-point range.

The Lady Griz (2-4) have now shot less than 34 percent in five of their six games this season. Montana has gone 1-4 in those games.

"We're just looking for anybody to make a couple of shots. It's frustrating," UM coach Robin Selvig said.

"The girls are playing hard, and I actually think we played pretty good this trip, but it doesn't feel very good when you don't make any shots."

Montana's bench outscored its starters 27 to 25, with the five starters combining to make just seven baskets between them.

Senior Jessa Loman Linford and freshman Jordan Sullivan came off the bench to hit seven of their nine shots, with Loman Linford scoring a team-high 11 points and Sullivan six.

Shannon Murphy scored 21 points to lead Florida Gulf Coast (4-0).

the Lady Griz were a pretty good organization about 10 years ago.
But, the game has passed them by...not much interest here..

If you are not interested...why comment?

Well, there are some people out there that still support Lady Griz basketball. I didn't start following them regularly until the 2005-06 season. And this year's team is still young, just give 'em time to grow.

Who cares about Ladyball. Some of you griz are too funny.

Sadly, the interest-level is pretty close to even around here based on actual attendance. The Lady Griz have out-drawn the men several times over the years, no matter what the reported attendance numbers say. Montana use to rank in the top 10 nationally in Women's attendance for many years, to answer your question. They are just not the kind of folks who are inclined to post on here very often, which probably comes as a great relief to you.

Hate to say it, but the game of ladies basketball passed the Lady Griz many years ago. While some of you dream about the past years when the Lady Griz could compete with all but a few elite programs nationally, the reality is that they are no longer are dominant team...not even in the conference, which they used to own.
