LG Game

Looks like a must win for both teams; if either has aspirations on hosting the BSC Tournament, that is. Hope to see it end up in Missoula, but it's going to take something to get it that way. The loss to Weber State last week didn't up. But that doesn't mean that the LG couldn't win it eventually even if they don't host it. In fact, there's a number of teams this year that can win it all regardless of who's hosting.

Edit: But right now, with 2:01 remaining in the First Half, it doesn't look good. SUU ahead 30 - 23 with the LG with nine turnovers already. Sims and Sullivan leading the LG with six points each. No one in real foul trouble, yet.

Getting worst nowadays. Behind 25 - 34 going into the Half. http://www.suutbirds.com/liveStats/v2/basketball/index.dbml?GAME_STAT_ID=1544356&db_oem_id=20100" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

a 21 point lead by a very average SUU reminds me why I don't watch UM womens' bball....very bad...

Really, 15 turnovers compared to six assists and four steals. I guess the LG don't have much to motivate themselves with.

Bottom line the whole game was a waste. LG had just a stinker of a night--the kind that all teams have every now and then. Couldn't hit the basket, missed free throws, turned the ball over---flat out ugly. Just a shame it came when it did---this close to the end of the regular season with a decent shot at hosting the tournament and laying the proverbial egg. To boot the main announcer for SUU was convinced Carly Selvig was Robin's daughter and seemed quite comfortable calling her either Selvig or Selwig--didn't matter to him. Also called Kellie Cole Kaylee.. :roll: Buthchered the pronunciation of Rachel Staudacher's name as well. Must have honed his broadcasting skills in Bozo :lol: .

Like Rogin said---just put it behind you and get ready for the Lady version of the felines next Monday.

Every now and then? - like the LG against North Dakota, Northern Colorado, Eastern Washington, Weber State last week and Southern Utah just now?..all games being on the road?
Sure, nice to have a 12 - 1 record at home; but a 5 - 7 record for away games? It's getting kinda glaring.

25.4 % FG percentage with a 25.0 % on treys? Methinks the LG should concentrate on playing the half court game strictly for the two-point basket and completely forego the three point shot. Also their free throws should be practised on as well. That's if they ever wish to bother themselves over such simple fundamentals to begin with. There's talent with the players on the team, but the coaching and strategy seems to be lacking, especially on basic fundamentals. If they can't do any better than 25.4 % on all FG attempts, there's no justifiable reason for them to expect shooting any better the farther away from the basket they would have to be when shooting the three. If you can't play the half court offense and getting your shot on basket in the normal two point shooting area, there's no way anyone isn't going to live or die with the three point shot and expect to do much better. IMHO

That's the trouble with the three point shot; teams assume they can catch up by shooting them time after time as if it's a big cure all. But it's not. If the LG shoot 25.4 % on all FG attempts as they did against SUU (15 - 59), with 4 - 16 on their treys thats a little over a fourth of all their shots from three point range. Still no better in percentage with 25 % (4 - 16). There is no viable reason for any team to do that. If their overall FG % was at 40 %, yeah, O.K. try a three every once in a while, but not a fourth of all your shots when you can't even do any better than 25.4 % overall.

The lack of energy on the part of the LG, the lack of ... everything ... was disheartening. I've noticed it during practices when I've been walking through ....

I've been a Lady Griz fan for the past 5 years but have never been embarrassed by their performance until last night against SUU, when they blew any chance of holding the tournaments at Missoula, where they at least had a better than average chance to win. Their inability to clinch crucial road games raises some questions about team morale, as well as their concentration on the basics. Their game plan seems to be pass the ball around and either pass the ball to the post, or try to shoot the ball while heavily defended. It is too bad for the seniors, one of whom recently seems to be terminally distracted. Why not set up some plays, some strategy, other than passing to a post who has a hard time either holding on to the ball or making baskets?
