LadyGriz LG behind the scenes

There is a lot going on in this thread so wanted to address the coaching situation and the lack of post play with the implementation of the so called “5 Out Offense”.

After Harris was named head coach, Zingaro was told that she would not fit in the “5 Out Offense” so she needed to enter the portal. That left one post player on the roster, Pirog. It has been mentioned a few times on this board that Pirog left the team because she did not fit in the “5 Out Offense”. Pirog’s decision to leave was based solely on how she was being treated as a basketball player and how the team was being treated by Harris. As a 3-year letterman, Pirog bled maroon and silver and still does. She is sorely missed in the locker room and on the floor.

As far as the coaching decision, you must go back to the selection process. A couple of players voiced their concerns about Harris being considered for the head coaching position to Haslam. Their concerns fell on deaf ears, and no other due diligence was performed by asking the rest of returning players about their thoughts about Harris possibly being named the next coach. There obviously was a lot of weight put on the emotional press conference after the loss to the other Montana team in the conference finals, and rightfully so, but the emotions of the Seniors were not a reflection of the girls that would be returning next season. The returners had no say in the decision of who would be their coach.

The Harris decision is Holsinger 2.0. No player development, temper tantrums, and relying on the portal to bring in the same type of players, just with different names. Sullivan/MacIntyre was the choice to bring back the Selvig Lady Griz culture.

The girls are exhausted, and we are only 4 games into conference play (might want to utilize the bench). The “5 Out Offense” is a disaster as you still need to play defense in the post and rebound. Shooting 31% from behind the arc will not win many games. Harris needs to go back to the drawing board if there is any chance to salvage the season.

I think MJ and Dani’s testimonials deserve more weight over the underclassmen last year who may not have seen many minutes. Every who was concerned could have transferred if they weren’t thrilled with the decision, but they didn’t. (Except the two instances you mentioned… but those are different).

I think the season is cooked for what it’s worth… but that doesn’t mean Harris and the rest of the staff aren’t the right people for the job in the long term. Let’s see how we attack the portal this year.

Haslam's hiring history is really pretty questionable.

Stitt, Shannon, Holsinger, (now Harris?)

His others..no brainers Travis and Hauck. Hard to argue with these....but really how much "work" for Haslam. Couldn't even get rid of Shannon without undue drama.

The season might be a wash, that doesn't mean the post-season is. Every team goes to Boise, worst thing that can happen is a low seed- more to overcome at the Tourney but maybe team is whole and better for having developed some breadth in March. The way the team leaned on Mack pre-injury was not going to be sustainable. The team's collective drive looked a lot better between Thursday and Sunday, in spite of what is clearly a problem of missing pieces. Go Griz.

So Noone left but these two in a era where its incredibly easy to find a new team to transfer to and you want to say he treats the team awful?

Pretty simple, Haslam let the public make a coaching hire. It’s him once again playing it safe to keep a job and keep pressure off. Need someone that actually wants to see this university take the next steps and has the balls to make decisions that’ll make that happen. Maybe Stitt scared him from ever having an opinion of his own!

Maybe they thought they would be playing in Moscow, Russia.
Their Head Coach is the 1st ever D1 Coach from Brazil. That is why you see a lot of Brazilian players. He also has very strong ties with international coaches because of it, so there is that as well.

Sure. But it was just a joke.
I know, was just an interesting note. I should have said it like this...

You obviously never played the game... I talked to the president of Brazil the other day, as well as saw the Head of AAU Basketball on my Sicily Vacation. He is a nice guy, and we talked about how much he loves all my knowledge. I went there and then circled over to Madrid Spain to have tapas. I know a lot of people, and they all tell me that I have the best knowledge, and that everyone should agree. If you don't, you are an idiot.

So close. Almost nailed it. Needs a few more name drops and have to expand on how you played the game 50 years ago, so know more than everyone else. Keep workshopping it and you will get there.

Whatever. Your response has nothing to with any post of mine.

They have a very promising freshman class coming next Fall. And they will hit the portal hard. (The downside to the Portal is all those possibles will first look at the won/loss record of the team and coaches they might join)

And NIL, as well as the bigs issue. What is the track record of development of a post in the 5 out, 4 out model the LG are playing
