Lets turn a negative into positive

All, I am and always will be upset about the BSC tournament officiating, but there is still some basketball to be played. This link to Mick's commentary. I have a feeling the GRIZ will be hosting a game. Missoula, get out there, loud and proud. Let's show the BSC, and give our team, a true home court advantage (if we host). Practice up for next year fans........with dynamic players and leadership, like Jamar and Cherry, the GRIZ will be continue to get it done, just in a different way. GO GRIZ!!!!!!!

No doubt. But, which team will show up? The UM team that stands around and refuses to take shots, or the smart and agressive team that could easily have won the BSC tourney by making just two more shots and adjusting to the flow of the game....

Oh, GrizLA, you're even more of a Negative Nellie than I am. I just want to be there to support our Griz, whatever, however -- and try to be positive about it!

Hey, sometimes the truth is hard to take. I was the greatest cheerleader for UM all year until I was able to see them change dramatically somewhere about mid season and become tentative, sloppy, and just not very confident....this team had its chances and did ok...but they underachieved...I am a realist...if they play as they CAN in the NIt, then they will be highly competitive.....if they play as poorly as they did at Long Beach, at the tourney, or any of the losses they had this year, then, next year cannot come fast enough. I hope Qvale gets his greatest performance in Missoula against a quality opponent in the NIT...I don't think that is being negative at all.....

So GrizLA are you REALLY a Griz cheerleader through and through. Then why in another thread you are giving the Griz NO CREDIT for that awesome win over UCLA and saying it was only UCLA is a horrible team. According to above, something changed mid-season(that I will agree)and I am assuming you are including the UCLA game in the first part of the season, so why the conflicting statements from one thread to the next?

Maybe some of the season's second half struggles had to do with the opposing team on the court and not from the Griz being lazy, schizphrenic, inconsistent, self-imploding, etc . . . When it becomes clear that a team cannot and does not like to shoot 3's, putting together a defensive game-plan becomes a little easier for the opposition.

And I wouldn't pin the LBSU loss on the Griz as a complete disaster. Sure, it was frustrating as hell to watch especially being a rare TV game, but that was a small, super-athletic, high tempo team. No post players. I thought by the style of their play they'd give UM troubles. Those are the kinds of teams that sometimes make runs in the tournament against good competition. Just not a style of play that most teams are used to. Kind of like a spread offense in football, kind of gimicky, hard to defend, can beat anyone any time.

Likely had to do with injuries, too. Cherry was obviously hampered by his ankle and there was talk of Selvig still not playing 100% this year (has he ever?). At least we had BQ a full strength and now have a young team poised to finish at or near the top of the BSC for the near future.

Uh, where in my entire life would you find me use the term "horrible" when it applies to an athletic team? What I said, and, since you don't seem to be able to understand, is that UM played UCLA on a night that the attendance was very low, no spirit at all, in fact, the players were dispirited after losing a close game to Kansas, and did not seem to be able to take Montana seriously. On the other hand, UM was ready to play, invigorated by being able to keep up early with the legendary banners floating over their heads and managed to win convincingly. At that time,l and a few others there, talked and hoped, that this was a turning point for UM basketball....we were very optimistic and proud. Sadly, losses to what were considred far lesser teams, because of tentative play, overpassing, sloppy play, missed free throws have only reinforced my belief that the celebratory entrance of the Griz into the upper echelons of college basketball must be postponed for yet another year.....UCLA was over ranked, played on reputation, and showed much the same play as UM and in the PAC 10 tourney, became a LAUGHING stock for even the local media here.....Not to put too fine a point on it, but yes, I am a Griz supporter, have been for more years than you have lived, I suspect, and given more than I could afford because I believe in the mission of UM...but, I am not a blind fan....criticism builds character....denial means only that nothing will improve or even remain the same.....Glad you appreciate the average but progress comes when being average is not good enough...

I hope you are right and the Griz are in the NIT and hosting a game! I'd love to see Qvale get another game here in Missoula and the Griz get a shot to end the season on a high note.

I too am very encouraged by our young players and think that next year will be a hell of a lot of fun too. Replacing Qvale is going to be very difficult, but hell..we lost AJ last year and this year turned out pretty good :) Reader coming back next year, along with Weisner, and our new recruits make me have high hopes for next year. Weisner could single handedly solve our 3 point shooting woes.

GrizLA - Lately you seem to be trying to turn every positive into a negative very quickly, and harping on every negative moment in the Griz season. The Griz are not yet a Gonzaga like program, and have a long ways to go to be something like that obviously. However they are now consistently at the top of their conference, can put up a good fight (and win) against teams from other much bigger conferences, and always have a shot to end up in the NCAA and make a little noise in it. The old saying "Rome wasn't built in a day" applies here... The Griz program is heading in the right direction. It may not be going fast enough for some people, but it is improving, and with Tinkle's recruiting I see it continuing to improve as long as he's here!
