Let's talk about the game

the SDSU loyal fans speak knowledgeably about their team, but when they come out with their score predictions they say things like 45-17 and so forth. I look back and they had almost identical score predictions for their "home games" against Villanova and U Albany as they predict for the "neutral site" championship game against Montana.

listening to them, it is clear they know their SDSU team well. But the Griz went to Seattle and played the Washington Huskies in front of 64,000 people and did not flinch.

I know UW that year are not this years quality BUT seem hard to believe their lines were weaker than SDSU. Could we have beaten UW on most nights, Probably not but on one night they sure did and only have to play SDSU one time so ones has to think this is not an impossible task like SDSU backers seem to think. I also like the defensive coaches having this time to put in new things (and Timmy is a great asset ) that SDSU will need to deal with blitz and protection wise. No turnovers no dumb penalties no injuries and the Griz should be in the game or even pull it out.

Yeah, I understand your point and agree. The observation that I am making about the loyal SDSU fan podcasts is, that they know their football team is good BUT that I do not understand how several of them say we are objective and balanced and then come out with comments like 'they have never seen cornerbacks like SDSUs' or 'they have never seen an offensive line like SDSUs'. In several of these podcasts the loyal SDSU fan commenters say 'no disrespect to Montana' but 'they do not have athletic linebackers like SIU'.

Just want to thank the Jack fans. I appreciate you letting me tease you a bit.
Good bunch of fans! Hope we give 'er a heck of a game this weekend!

Comments like the ones you highlighted are why I listened for only a few minutes. Look, I get it: it's a pod for sdsu fans, and not necessarily supposed to be non biased. But those comments just prove they're nothing more than non enlightened tools who haven't watched any Montana games.

Picking a 27 point Jackrabbits win is the same as griz fans picking a 1 point win, both are 14 points off the betting line

Is it , though, really? Cmon.

Yeah I think it is. Of course SDSU fans are going to be confident, we’ve had 3 “close” games this year. I’ll be the first to admit the Cats should have beat us, they 100% outplayed the Jacks that day. That was the second game of the year and after that they haven’t really had any poor games. The SIU game was on the road, their homecoming. They kept it close but the win was never really in doubt. Nova was terrible weather, pass game was non existent for both teams. Close first half in that game and complete domination by the Jacks in the second half. Kneeled the game out from the 5 yard line so score could have been worse than it ended up at. That’s it for games that were even remotely close. Top it off with a 59-0 win in the semis and easy to see where the confidence comes from.

Compare that to the Griz who have had a ton of close games and needed special teams heroics to win the past 2 games.

What I’m saying is it’s easy to see why the Griz fans are picking a close win, that’s what they’ve been able to do all year. But it should be also as easy to see what Jacks fans pick a big win, that’s also what they’ve been able to do all year.

No matter what, the buildup to this game is 100x better than it was last year when all the NDSU fans were saying they had no chance

The same?    The self-appointed objective Smackrabbit fans predicting 20-40 point victories are rational, but the Griz fans are irrational and do not understand they are playing the SDSU team that is better than the 1984 Chicago Bears.    :o :o :o :o

Uhhhmmm Wrong - it is the loyal blue-lens glasses Smackrabbit fans saying Montana has no chance. You don't get it. They had an Easy bracket with mercer, villanova and albany, but it is the self-appointed object and expert Smackrabbit podcasters that are saying Griz have no chance.

He's saying that last year NDSU fans had almost zero optimism and were saying they had no chance, which meant there wasnt really any back and forth in the 3 weeks off. This year both teams feel they have a good chance, and rightfully so. It's made the 3 weeks much more fun.

Yes sir, I completely understand that it is a podcast for SDSU fans.

What I am highlighting is that they say that they are objective and knowledgeable Smackrabbit fans and that they see and understand Montana. Then they go to make their score prediction, and give the Griz the same scoring chances and loss margin as they did predicting Villanova and Albany (at Brookings). They see Montana to be the same (at a neutral site). Plus they keep saying that the Griz have never ever seen this amount of talent in their opponents, indicating that the games against Big Sky (and Pac-12 Washington 2021) are not worthy.

So if Montana gives SDSU a fight to the end, they will simply say that SDSU had an off game, with no credit to MT.

Griz fans:
Best of luck to the Griz on Sunday.
I was at both App State games in Missoula. Great fans and great tailgating!! I wish we could scedule a home & home with you guys. Maybe one day.
From what I have seen of the Griz in the playoffs you could have beaten Florida State in that bowl game too!!

Thank you AppAlum1, I sure do miss our games with you guys. That 09 game in the Semi's is still the greatest game I believe that I have witnessed within WA GRIZ, with this years Semi now 2nd on my list.

I don't think you can go all the way back to the Washington game. I've been told on here that because we haven't been tested in our 3 playoff games we no longer know how to respond in a close game. Going all the way back to 2021 exceeds the statute of limitations. ;)

Thank you - App fans are good-to-the-core people.

SDSU fans are putting a lotta faith in the fact they believe we only won last two games because of Special Teams.

There are three phases to football: offense, defense AND special teams. Every game ever played has standout plays in at least one phase by a team. Excluding special teams as an obvious component to winning any game is silly.
