As my buddy and I were talking this morning, he had an interesting suggestion. Wanted to see what your thoughts were.
So all these QB's go through spring camp like we expect them to. As most expect the system and style seems to favor Sims, Chalich, Pflug and (Prater?).
My friend recalls Weyer being a pretty decent track athlete especially he recalled him a good high jumper. Could this suggest that Weyer get thrown into the rotation of WR's in order to see playing time? He seemed to recall Weyer also having some decent running ability as a QB which was why the thought of a WR.

Stitt has made it pretty clear that his ideal QB trait isn't speed or arm strength or running ability, but the ability to quickly read the defense and process 25-30 different options, call the play and effectively run the offense.

Pflug.

CDA I'm with you but I honestly think there is finally some talent that can utilize a few different QB's. I'm just not sure anymore if this is a one horse qb offense, but more multiple? 90 plays a game is a bunch. No sense putting anyone in line for Tommy John surgery .

You could be right.

Please do not take this a smack as it is not intended that way. This statement "the ability to quickly read the defense and process 25-30 different options, call the play and effectively run the offense" is what would concern me if I was a Griz fan. New system, new coach and all new quarterbacks. Stitts in the past had the luxury of having a quarterback come into his system have him redshirt and learn the system behind another quarterback. All of the kids trying to get the starting spot will need to be in the film room studying every defense they can.

Agreed. The QB will be the one who can internalize the system the soonest. We have a lot of kids that have shown great potential, but the ones with the shortest learning curve will be at the top of the heap. Trying to guess who the QB will be at this point is silly.

I typed this up going off an old roster, nothing official here. What does everyone think about how the team is looking? Changes are sure to occur.

1) Are we strong, in numbers and talent, at every position?
2) Who will be moving to a different position?

Discuss.... :egriz:

We've got six talented and smart kids wanting to be the guy @ QB, and no doubt they will need to be well coached to get optimal results. But in fast-break offenses like Stitts, it's as much about the other ten doing what they need to do so that the QB has the right option when he processes what he's seeing. Everyone is going to need to be on the same page for this offense to be effective/efficient.

Hence why the race is wide open. Every single QB vieing for the starting job will be present during Spring ball....may the best man win.

I am a little confused about Prater's remaining eligibility. His Hawaii bio said he redshirted there in 2014, but I thought I read somewhere else online that he went to NAU directly after high school but had issues and dropped out to join the Army. Does he in fact have four years remaining?

I'm a little confused too regarding how many years he will have here. The only way I can think of that he would have 4 years left is if he greyshirted at one school, then redshirted at the other. If that's not the case, then he should only have 3 years to play.

You don't have WR Caleb Lyons on there.

I did initially, but I then came back and edited him off the roster (as well as taking off other walkon WRs like Austin Carver from Dillon, Tristan Clark from Deer Lodge and Sean Foley from Whitefish). Meaning I took off A LOT of the walk-ons on the entire roster. Because most won't see any significant action, if any at all. They need to earn a scholarship before they are taken seriously. Because so many don't. A small percentage end up All BSC, for sure. But until they start showing it... I am not saying this about specifically about Caleb Lyons, it goes for a lot of the walkons. He (they all for that matter) may turn out to be a big contributor(s), no one knows at this time.

But a lot of times, a lot of walkons disappear without giving us a need to think we are deeper than we actually are.

Case in point on the WRs, Coach Stitt said during the halftime show of the Griz/cat b-ball game that the Griz "have some receivers" for his offense, "but he needs more". So that leads me to believe a good portion of those walkons (Carver, Lyons, Foley, Clark) will probably be passed over by sholarshiped recievers in 2015. Time will tell.

Danny Peoples (#3 Butte Central) hit 6 three-pointers vs Dillon (#2) in Dillon last night.

This is great news! If he is familiar with how to score three points in one sport it should be a seamless transition into scoring three points in another sport!!!!

I think Foley and Lyons have a decent shot at competing for a spot in this offense due to their speed and athleticism.

I agree with you, they have a shot. They are short, so yeah they are little athletic guys. Foley ran 11.43 his SR year in the 100 meters at the state meet, so that puts him a little faster than the taller Griz WRs. I could only find up to a few JR year times for Lyons, and they were kind of poor to be frank...11.89a / 12.38a / 12.11a. Those are slower times than the taller Griz WRs SR HS times.

I am sure both are really good, best of luck to them. There are faster WRs on the team though. Man the WR battle is going to be epic (over the life of Stitts regin)
