Let's Help Mick!

Mick Holien, the Voice of the Griz, has often said that his greatest regret is that he never got his degree in journalism from the U of M. Putting aside that I would rather have a sister in a whorehouse than her be a journalist for the moment, we need to petition the UM to give it to him this Spring.
I am not sure who to petition, probably the AD and the Dean of Journalism. But whoever it is, this would finally bring some credit to that school if they do so.
Any obvious thoughts on who to petition? I am sure that if all of EGriz comes on line for the petition, it would be impossible to ignore.

So you want to petition to get a guy a degree when he didn't earn the degree? Is that right? I mean Mick was a staple of Griz athletics and there are many things that I think he deserves but a degree may not be one. But then again many people have honorary degrees that don't deserve them as much as him.

I assume it would be an honorary degree. I like the idea.

in my opinion, mick deserves much better sendoff/parting/honor (however you want to categorize it) - than he received from the university... cool that some egriz folks recognize and want to rectify...

Yes. Its an honorary degree. Part of the criteria states "Honorary doctorates are awarded to individuals who have achieved a level of distinction which would merit comparable recognition in their profession or area of expertise." This is a no brainer when you look at the criteria.

...get it done..get it right...
...award between first/second quarter...
...if it's happens at halftime nobody will be there...

I'm surprised the Dept. of Ed is still accrediting Journalism degrees as we've all been told journalists are the enemy of the american people. It's basically the same as receiving an honorary degree from an ISIS training school.

The quote was "fake journalists", at least quote the president correctly.

According to the President, it seems like any journalist / news outlet that does something to make him mad are labeled as "fake journalists." [emoji28]

College degrees have to be earned, otherwise they are just fluff. I earned mine. Others did as well. You do not deserve a college degree just because you are a good guy (like Mick is), but because, well...you EARNED it.

If the U of M folks want to confer some kind of fluff "honorary" degree, go ahead. In the end it won't make Mick any more or less of a fine person in my eyes.

My kid was an "honarary" captain at a bobcat football game. Everyone knew he wasn't the real captain because he's 5. Also he didn't earn it other than he ate at Wendy's.

This is my thought too. I love Mick, but honorary degrees are no replacement for the ones that are earned.

Come on people, of course it's an honorary degree. If it was a real degree, he could take it and a buck to McDonalds and get a cup of coffee. This is just recognition of someone who gave above and beyond what people with real degrees did.
