I will be the first to admit that I am not overly excited about the new DC. However, in today's environment, I think we are just kidding ourselves if we think that a young, upcoming BCS assistant is going to come to UM to take a coordinator or assistant position.

The new DC at LSU is going to make $2.5M per year... Let that sink in. So let's just assume that the lowliest assistant at a program like that is making $400K per year. Do you really think that this person would come to UM to get paid (I am guessing) $80K to be a coordinator??? Padding the resume is one thing, but doing it at 20% of what you are currently making in today's environment is simply not going to happen.

Our options in the future, as I see them, are the following:

1. A current assistant or coordinator at the FCS level that is moving on for some reason.
2. A head coach or an assistant at FCS or a "Group of 5" level that have been let go, or are leaving for some other reason.
3. A good young GA, who is truly looking to get his foot in the door, and move up.
4. Someone like Tim Hauck who simply loves it here, has made his money, and wants to come back and be a part of the Griz.

I just don't buy that we are going to be able to attract anyone outside of these areas unless UM adds a LOT of money to the coaching pool. I trust Bobby, and I think that he will get as good of people as he can. But I think the people who believe he was going to bring in an assistant from SDSU or somewhere else at that level, for considerably less money to be an FCS Assistant or coordinator, are just not realistic.

THIS! We are an above average FCS program, in a conference that rarely gets progression in the playoffs, with teams that might be better off in Division II, in a liberal community of football skeptics, and a University of budget problems. Be thankful with what we get, and he’d better be ready for the haters.

I’m guessing he might fall into category #4. He probably ain’t rich by any means but he has been paid as an nfl assistant coach for several seasons now.

I like the new DC.

Grizpack, let's be honest here...

Well there was this time when I was about 5 years old. I went to the grocery store with my Mom. I picked up a candy bar as she was checking out. She found me eating it when we got home. She then took me back to the store and made me give them payment and apologize for taking it.
