Let the rumor mill begin...

The past three off-seasons we have lost a coach. First Andy Hill, then Evens followed by Owens last year. It would be nice to not lose any of our coaches this year. The lack of continuity has undoubtedly had an impact on the program.

Yeh I don't know why anyone in the Pac 12 would be high on a Big Sky coach. Montgomery made it to the final four and was National coach of the year twice I believe, Krysko is doing a great job at Utah and Tad Boyle doesn't seem to be able to coach a lick either at Colorado. Some of you guys have no clue.

For the record grizindabox Ben Howland was a Big Sky coach also.

Huh?... Here's a clue for you... Boyle has the 23-11 Buffaloes in their 3rd straight NCAA tournament even after losing their point guard and team leader in Spencer Dinwiddie to injuries early in the season. Tad's done a helluva job with essentially a very young team in a PAC-12 that's sending half its teams into the Big Dance.

Ha ha clearly you don't get sarcasm

Some of you guys who say Tinks has no chance need to come up with some real reason other than you don't think he has a chance. Give us some sort of insider info or something that matters.

After the Paul Wulff and Ken Bone experiment(s), a BSC coach is very unlikley at WSU. Moos needs to make a splash with this hire like Mike Leach in football, Ernie Kent, Ben Howland, Leon Rice, etc. is what he's looking for....a jump start to the program. 8-)

I suspect you're right. WSU owes Bone two years of salary still, and that is a chunk of change for WSU. If they're willing to buy him out of his contract two years early, I suspect they won't be fishing off of the BSC pier for a potential hire...

I am not sure that Tinks body of work would anoint him to pac 12 status. Winning the Big Sky means nothing on the national radar. Getting absolutely crushed in the NCAA shows that he has not totally evolved as an above average coach. He would have to recruit a much higher athletic caliber of player then his current pattern of recruiting which would take some time that not a lot of ADs would give him. I found his substitution patterns and his allocating of minutes a little perplexing but that is just a personal opinion. I think he could be in the conversation with some lower division teams in the MWC if they were looking for a head coach. I think Rahne is a better coach and recruiter and nobody seems to knocking at his door but that could change if he makes a game out of the Arizona match up.

Career wise it might make more sense for Wayne to coach in the MWC or WAC. MWC makes make the most sense. However, the pay at most the WAC, or ever WCC would be a considerable pay increase for him as well. Proving himself at another school in another conference would certainly do him justice. Then again, I want him to stay at Montana forever.

Boy, I dunno. Seems to me that Giacoletti and Bone got Pac 12 level jobs by doing less than Tinks has done.

As for Rahe, is he really a better coach? You wouldn't know it from key head to head match-ups. And I suspect he has had some other offers, but he already makes far more than Wayne does, so the offers may not be as attractive.

Speculation on sports talk radio here in Seattle figures a new coach will be named sometime before the end of the NCAA tournament....maybe sooner. When Paul Wulf was canned a couple years ago on 11/30 Mike Leach was announced on 12/1....

Based upon what Wayne Tinkle has accomplished -- personally, as a player, publicly and professionally -- he is one of those truly rare individuals who daily demonstrates personal & professional integrity and daily earns the trust of all. The man's built extensive "references."

So, he'd be the perfect candidate to be presented the metaphorical keys to the city... and the university.

If I had the influence (personal and financial), I'd give him a big raise and promise him the job for as long as he wants. I'd also promise him the opportunity to slide over as A.D. or VP for student affairs whenever he wants to move away from coaching. It would be a wise investment for the U of M to make a long-term proposal to him.

Regardless of Mr. Tinkle's "down" year, ADs from around the west know of his reputation and I'd bet he's been contacted numerous times already. But he'll act on his own terms. As such, he'll make whatever move he makes "when the time is right."

Too bad we couldn't somehow lock him into a long term contract.

I am 100% certain that I have no idea if Tinks is being considered for the Wazzu job. You heard it here first! :thumb:

Interesting blog, Wayne Tinkle along with other possible candidates. http://www.cougcenter.com/wsu-cougars-basketball/2014/3/18/5515546/wsu-basketball-coach-candidates-leon-rice-ernie-kent?utm_source=cougcenter&utm_medium=nextclicks&utm_campaign=articlebottom" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
