Let The Kid Show His Stuff

We need to play the kid that gives us the best chance of winning now--tell Nick Ostmo, that came back for a 6th year to win the Big Sky Conference again and to get back to Frisco this year and win it this time, and to seniors Casey, Myer, etc. that we need to develop Ah Yat for the future.

Last year after the NAU game and Vidlack's seven-sack debacle, and all of that wasn't Vidlack's fault, we made the change. After last Saturday's dismal second-half performance with Ah Yat as our starting QB and he played lousy--again, not all his fault, it's time to make another change and start the battle-tested junior in the Mountain West Conference Fife as our starting QB.

I think we definitely could win an NC in Frisco under Ah Yat in 2027 or 28 assuming the FCS NC game remains played in Jan. and we are still in the FCS, but not in 2024-25.

I just don't know. It's never about developing with the Griz. It's winning, winning and more winning.Anyway we can . Are we really developing a quarterback or are we just trying to win games with the best we have ?

Don't misunderstand me, I think Ah Yat is also our best answer at QB right now. He plays with a fire I didn't see from Sam.

I also think people shouldn't be so quick to say the UND game is the same as NAU was last season. UND is a much better team, and while Vidlak looked bad and off the entire game, Ah Yat only looked bad in the second half (and most of it was his O-Line). He played pretty damn well in the first half.

We'll see if Bobby goes with Fife tomorrow and the story repeats, but I still think KAY should be the guy this season.

KAY has to be the guy tomorrow. Great game (one we will win by 30+) to build confidence. Get him some easy throws early and watch him grow. This kid has all the talent you could ask for, but needs games like this to put it all together. Incredibly excited to see this young man grow into the next great Griz QB!

Fair question. The portal is clearly big right now for all teams. I don’t think this staff understands developing a QB. I really don’t. People won’t like that criticism, but it’s the truth. I think Ah Yat is a fine young QB that could develop into something special. Can’t criticize him for last weeks mess. That is on the coaches. No two ways about it. It doesn’t look good when a program is two games in, second year in a row, without a clear starter. Baffling to me. Simply baffling at this level. Pick a guy based on what you have seen in fall practice. If they don’t know the playbook, they aren’t the guy. Use the second QB for limited plays that fit their skillset. Chambers was that player at MSU. They used him well. U of am has two QB’s will similar talent near as I can tell. Great if they can both get the offense clicking. Fife really hasn’t been given a fair shake. He was a large reason for the first win. Then he sat and they put him in at a time that wasn’t ideal. Ah Yat got out of rhythm and the offense stalled because there were no adjustments and the Griz stopped running the ball. Maddening.

If we had a great QB this entire thread would be irrelevant.

That we don’t is the biggest problem for a program with championship aspirations.

It is quarterback development. The Griz simply have not done it.

I really don't know what you guys are seeing. To me Ah Yat has looked good for exactly 1 quarter and that was the first quarter vs UND. Other than that, I haven't been impressed. I can see that he's going to become good but, not quite there.

We are at the game and left early for halftime to tailgate.. I think Fife is performing pretty well. I hope Huot gets some snaps ae well in this blowout so we can him in a live game !!!

Was at that game

Thought ah yay looked like the way better passer but also don't understand the play calls for him that I don't think help him out

when fife was qb we decided to just run the ball like crazy and score but didn't really do that with ah yat which he is the Better passer in my kind for sure so you'd want to run the ball more with him and open it up downfield with play action

Either way we beat a really awful awful team, worst team I have seen if wa Griz in a long time

Just want us to have a direction because next week is a real game forsure

The NCAA should tell the Pioneer Conference to either fund at least 35 scholarships or drop down to Div. III, which is nonscholarshop. ( I told my friends from Iowa and my Missoula friends hosting the tailgate at halftime that the game was the football equivalent of The Battle of The Little Big Horn, and thus, we weren't going back into WA-GRIZ for the second half !!! )

My friends from Iowa and I are at The MO Club, and you can all rest easy--over a pitcher or two of PBR and several Mo burgers, we have solved all of the world's problems !!! ( But what the hell is the deal about bringing your own peanuts ? )
