Given the abuse heaped on ST coach Arbuckle in the previous two years after every ST screw-up, I'm surprised that Burtnett has escaped criticism for the safety play.

Is this guy even on the coaching staff any more?

Does CV stand for Central Valley by chance?

Arbuckle is retired. If that was your question, Constant Velocity Griz.
Yes, he is on staff as safeties coach.CV Griz Fan said:Griz2k said:CV Griz Fan said:maroonandsilver said:Given the abuse heaped on ST coach Arbuckle in the previous two years after every ST screw-up, I'm surprised that Burtnett has escaped criticism for the safety play.

Sorry! I was asking if Burnett was still on the staff? It was obviously a "weak" attempt at a joke. CV are my initials.

To answer your question Maroon and Silver, Yes Coach Burnett should be taking some "heat" over the poor safety play. But it is bigger than Burnett now. For what ever reason, Coach Delaney has decided to take a "public" position of supporting the starting safeties. Delaney starts out almost every press conference with"the safety play has improved along with the tackling". His intentions must be to deflect the flack from Burnett and the players. It is just a "tactic" employed" by some coaches. It sets a "tone" for the pending interview. Replay
Tuesday's radio show. Delaney actually said "that the tackling by the Griz was fine Baumann makes all defenses look bad".
griz4life said:Well, Delaney is answering the question about safeties before anyone has a chance to ask it, which would suggest he's already hearing about it before he gets to the press conference. He's aware of it.
Problem is, Delaney didn't assemble this staff and he's probably lucky coaches weren't abandoning ship left and right after both Pflugrad and the AD were fired. Think about where these guys were before Pflu hired them. Burtnett was on his way to retirement. Rosenbach wasn't in coaching. The coaches who were here for 2011 couldn't have been comfortable with their prospects, given the possibility of a new coach. Even now Delaney's time is up after two seasons.
