bio of Carson King
Talk about a changing of the gaurd. All three starters are being replaced in 2014. Not since Tyler Joyce, Kyle Ryan, and Loren Utterback and their 922 career tackles left in '07 have we graduated this much expierience and I can't remember another time that would even compare. Tripp, Coyle, and Kanongata'a combined to have 897 tackles, 81 tackles for losses, and 29.5 sacks in 152 career games(95 career starts). One thing the '13 group has that the '07 group didn't is NFL potential. Tripp will most likley get drafted and Coyle should get a FA contract. We're not here to talk about the old guys though. We got some new blood to discuss. We've got 4 Jr's and 3 RS-Fr ready to step in and put their mark on Grizzly football. Most of these guys deffenetly got the potential, they just have to get out on the feild and prove it. Im not 100% on who will be where, im just kinda takein' a stab at it. Lets get started.

Jeremiah Kose will be one of the bigger question marks in '14. in the 2nd week of '13 he suffered a season ending injury (torn ligament in the knee i think?) after sitting out all of '12 from an injury he suffered in '11 his Fr year at a community college. He had a great fall camp and was locked in to be Coyle's back up before the injury. All I've heard is hes attempting to play still but hes gonna need to stay healthy if he does (understatement!). At 6'2" and 230 lbs he's built to play the middle and has shown he can do it. I know all of Griz Nation is praying he can make it and be the force in the middle we need for the next two years.
Tucker Schye is another RS-Fr people are expecting big things from. At 6'4" and 215 he is already a big kid with room to grow. He can become a very destructive strong side LB. He comes from class B Malta that lost in the state championships his Sr year and fell to 5-3 and not advancing to the playoffs the next year. His Sr year of high school he dominated with 136 tackles, 20 sacks, and 10 forced fumbles. If he can transfer his success to his Griz career, he should become one of the great ones.
Keenan Watt is a 6'2" 220lb walk on from Great Falls High. He was a 2nd team all conference and invited to play in the Shrine game in 2012. He played strong side backer in high school but givin his size and speed, may be better suited for the middle. Judging from his hudl vid, he has good tackling hands, pursues well, and avoids blockers well. I know his depth is certainly nessesary and he could turn out to be one of those great walk ons.
Sam
Conner Lebsock is another guy I have heard might get the honor of #37. At 6'2" and 205 he's good size for the strong side and still has some quickness. He's deffenetly got the blood lines for the Griz with his dad and bros playin' here. He's had to overcome some injuries though. He would have played his true Fr year if not receiving a season ending injury in fall camp. Then in the fourth game of his RS-Fr year he suffered another season ending injury. Last year he played his first full season and finished with 23 tackles, while also playing special teams. Now that he is going to be on the feild full time, he should acomplish alot in the next two years.
Herbert Gamboa will be a Jr next year and is making a move from safety to LB. At 6'1" and 193, he needs to put on a little weight but he's very fast. He was 1st Team All-State in California in track and ran the 100 meters in 10.51. Although he's played in 18 career games, he only has 21 tackles. I might be afraid that could show a lack of football instincts with his speed but his Sr year in high school he had an amazing 82 solo tackles which says he does have them. We'll see if more minuets on the feild will help.
Zack Vis is another Fr people are excited about. He has been switched to LB after coming in as a WR. He's 6'3" and 200 lbs so he's a good size and may actually be one of our bigger backers since those numbers were from last years roster. He was a four year letterman in football, baseball, and basketball so he's very athletic. He had some interest from some 1A schools but a broken collarbone may have scared them off.
Nikolaj la Cour is a 6'2" 205 lb walk on from Redmond Wa. In high school he played WR, CB, and safety but is being groomed for a LB'er position here. He has good speed. Running the 100m he consistently ran a 11.5/11.6. He was also all conference at WR in '11. I can't find anything on him playing in '12 so I don't know if he took a year off but he did walk on last Aug so he has had one full year practicing with the team.
Willy
Kendrick Van Ackeren will be the leading tackler for all returning LB's with 29(ouch). Alot of those came from special teams also where he was a beast. Due to Kose's injury last year, he was forced to play some Mike as a back up but at 6'1 195 I think he's a little undersized and would probably be better suited at one of the outside spots. What ever spot he ends up at, expect big things from him. As a RS-Fr at the University of Hawaii he totaled 25 tackles. As a true Fr he was named their scout team defensive player of the year.
Connor Strahm is one of two RS-Fr LB's Griz fans are very excited about. At 6'0" and 230 he's already added at least 15 lbs since he got here. Another kid from Sheldon High School in Oregon (JJ's school), he comes very highly decorated. His Jr year he was named 1st All-State WR and DB, and league offensive MVP. His Sr year he was All-State WR and DB, league offensive MVP and Oregon states Defensive Player of the Year. To quote Charlie Daniels, "Watch him folks, for he's a thoroughly dangerous man." We should expect big things from him in the future.
Ryan Flink is a 2012 graduate of Big Sky High. At 6'0" and 200 lbs, hes a little undersized but for a walk on, he has sone good credentials. He was a 2nd team all state ILB and a 1st team all conference. Not sure if he will ever be a great LB'er for us but he will add some much needed depth.
incoming freshman
I just took a guess at positions based mostly of size and speed.
M-Dylan Stenseth is a 6'2" 225 lb walk on from Lewiston, Mt. He was a 1st team all state LB and P as a Sr and a 1st team all conference LB and P as a Jr and a So. He was also a 1st team all league FB his Sr year which proves how much he enjoys hittin' people. He may be forced into action this year in the middle if Kose isn't able to go.
Tyler Richtmyer is a 6'2" 215 lb walk on. A local kid from Sentinel, he earned 1st team all league honors as a LB his Sr and Jr year. He was also a 2nd team all state and 1st team all conference TE his Sr year and 1st team all league TE his Jr year. A very safe bet to redshirt this year.
S-Josh Buss is a 6'3" 195 lb'er from Boise, Id. Known more for his offence, he ran for nearly 2000 yards and 25 td's his Sr year. He was Idaho's southern conference player of the year his Sr year and earned 1st team all state his Sr and Jr year at RB. He was also an All American lacrosse player his Jr year. He also lettered in wrestling one year. He is going to be an expierement though. He hasn't started on defense since his So year where he played safety. In '13 he only played about 15 plays on defense at the LB position during nickle situations. I think with the way he runs and his lacrosse expierience, he shouldn't have a problem converting to a full time LB although I'd still like to see him redshirt a year to adjust to the college position. If it works out, I wouldnt be surprised if he turns out as good as Jordan.
Alex Thomas is a 6'0" 215 lb'er from CMR. He was a 1st team all state LB his Sr year and a 1st team all conference LB his Jr year. He was also invited to play in the Shrine game and the Badlands Bowl. He was a two year letterman and recorded 24 sacks and 28 tackles for a loss in his career. I'm sure he'll redshirt.
W-Shayne Cochran comes from class C 8-man Culbertson, Mt. There the 6'1" 210 lb'er was the heart and soul of that team. He earned 1st team all state honors his Sr and Jr year at both the LB and RB positions. He also earned a letter all four years of football. He was the offense totaling almost 1600 yards and 28 td's. He's another that I think could play this year depending on depth needed at the LB slot.
Milan Marrero is a 6'0" 200 LB walk on from Cali. Coming in with pretty good credentials, I think this was a big score to get him to walk on. He was a four year letterman at his San Diego high school and a two time 1st team all league. He was also his conference's defensive player of the year his Sr year. He may redshirt being a walk on but I'd expect him getting a schollie and playing time in the near future.

M-Carson King is gonna be a good one if he makes good to his commitment in two years. The 6'3" 215 lb Dillon product will be a 20 year old Fr when he returns from a two year LDS mission in 2016. While in high school he earned 1st team all state honors as a Sr and a Jr along with HM as a So. He was also the class A SW conference defensive player of the year his Sr and Jr year. To go along with all that he was a 1st team all conference OG his Sr year. If he stays in football shape he should be about a 230 LB true freshman ready to rule the Big Sky, pun intended.
