Watched the documentary, and I disagree with the "education system failed me" thing. I went to public schools that were shit*y by any metric. Almost certainly shit*ier than any of those in the doc. Don't blame it on shit*y teachers if you don't amount to anything. The blame is yours.

That said, that academic advisor lady was kind of a smoke show.

Finally, something you've posted that I can 100% grade A agree with. I attended a very small HS (less than 100 in the top four grades.......so poor that the school board couldn't/wouldn't fund football) Yet, even with the meager resources, they employed excellent teachers........strong in the sciences, language arts, and maths (back in the days of the sliderules, protractors, and Bunsen burners. I felt that when I graduated from hs, I was prepared for college and that's all my parents asked.

First, I hate everyone in this thread. You all made me binge watch 6 hours of that fascinating show....
CDA is spot on. Opportunities abound in life and education for those who wish to seize them.
Those kids are largely the product of their environment (not slaves of it for they are responsible too). How sad that their short life experiences have taught them that they can't or shouldn't look past their current situations. I felt the episode 'Plan B' really illuminated that travesty.
Ms Wagner is the true hero from that program. She exhibited the patience of Job and the love of a mother for those kids. She encouraged them through thick and thin. Something I got the impression many of them had not really experienced often if at all. Even coach Stephens, through his misinterpretation of tough love, proved not to be consistently faithful to his 'family.'

Coach Bob’s strategy might work. Propogating a mass exodus of loyal teammates and negotiating a huge influx of malcontents will really improve team morale. Sprinkle in a few lapses of judgement from team leaders with the associated legal proceedings and it’s shaping up to be another proud year for Harvard on the Clark Fork.

Does your name originate from the showers you take?
