Former Milwaukee Bucks coach Larry Krystkowiak is the favorite to return to the Idaho Stampede as head coach, league sources said.

Krystkowiak reached the Continental Basketball Association’s championship series as Idaho’s coach in 2004 before leaving for a successful run at the University of Montana. He coached the Bucks for parts of two seasons, losing his job in 2008 with a 31-69 (.310) record. Krystkowiak is a candidate for an assitant’s job with the Phoenix Suns, and hoping an offer comes his way, a source said. If he’s passed over, he’s expected to take the Idaho job.

We should buy out Tinks, throw him out on his ass, and put K in charge until he can land another NBA gig. Going from NBA coach to CBA coach is pretty freaking crappy.

First, I think the jury is out on Tinks, even if there is a jury. What I argue for is a long-term, successful coach in all UM sports on the order of Robin Selvig. I hope Bobby Hauck is in that category. If coach K were to come back to UM, I do not want to see him as a short-timer. He should come back only if he wants to be in the long haul. As to Tinks, let's give him this year and another before passing judgment.

I actually agree with dj on something??? Whoa!

But I agree, NBA HC to CBA HC is like going from Microsoft to walmart.

I'm sure it would cost other programs in the Big Sky some W's, but I would like to see Krystkowiak back on the hardwood in our conference.

Larry K. really is not a college coach despite his success in college. He really does not like the recruiting aspect of the job and prefers to work with older men, and yes the money is better at the pro level ... well at least at the NBA level. If Tinkle were to leave tomorrow I really doubt that the UM athletic department could entice him to come back. If he did get a college coaching job it would only be temporary until he could land a pro job. That is where his heart is.

Just my opinion

I've heard precisely the same thing, Mcat.

guys Idaho is not a CBA job they are now in the NBA d-league. (The NBA's AAA league)

FYI: the last head coach for Idaho is now an asst with the sac kings

Pretty accurate opinion. It's clear that Larry (+ Jan) wants to be a pro coach and he did the U of M job to get his alma mater back on track after Kennedy ran into the ground plus it was a pay raise from the Stampede. If he wanted a college he could of got one after the Bucks cut him loose but, he knows the NBA pays better and in a crazy way it has better job security. Him going to the Stampede isn't a bad thing if anything it will give him another shot at a NBA Head job or asst. job.

There has been talk that Larry was up for a job in Minnesota for new coach Kurt Rambus, but this week end the Timber Wolves announced the hiring of Reggie Theus and Bill (the walking cheap shot)Lambier as assistants. I would guess Rambis still needs one or two more assistants but it would be interesting if Kystowiak and Lambier were both hired at Minnesota. Lambier is the guy who on one foul ended Larry's NBA carrier.
