Lamson > Ay Yat

My neighbor and I had this debate yesterday. The numbers don’t stack up to support his argument. Lamson is very good, but is he really better than Ah Yat? I don’t think he is. Two different systems and Ah Yat was very disciplined with not trying to do too much last year with his feet. Lamson was 15th in the conference for rushing yards and the Cats had three players in the top 15. Lamson also had a better defensive squad to help him out in my opinion. He is poised and a good leader. So is Ah Yat and this is probably the year he really comes into his own. BSC stats show two pretty evenly matched QB’s. Interceptions were understandably higher for Ah Yat given he aired quite a bit more. 470 attempts vs. 356. Lamson has the hardware and Ah Yat has plenty of motivation. Going to be great battles to watch this season.

This is literally just the Tommy Mellot debate again, but slightly different.

Lamson runs his offense with surgical precision, and is a fantastic runner. He is so in tune with his receivers that they can explode on any play (ASK ME HOW I KNOW). However, it's unlikely the NFL is gonna give him a call because he's not a prototypical passer. He needs rollouts and running game misdirection to thrive, which he has, so he's thriving lol.

Ah Yat doesn't run his offense quite as well as Lamson runs his (yet), but he is clearly a better "pure passer". He can drop back, read the field, and go through progressions better than Lamson. I also think he has a better arm, a higher ceiling, and can make throws Lamson can't. If his improvement curve continues like it did the last two years, he's going to be the best QB in FCS this season, and he's going to be playing P5 football next year (not saying it will, just what would happen if it did).

I can't remember the last time the quality of QBs at each school at the same time was this high. Both will likely be Payton finalists.

This will be sacrilege to many of my Cat brethren, but Lamson > Mellott as a QB. Unlocked more of the passing game despite not being as good of an overall player as Mellott.

I like Ah Yat better. He's younger, at least as good already, and with a higher ceiling. It will be interesting to see him with a different head coach.
You think much changes? Pease seemed like he had a lot of leeway with the offense last year.

I don't think we're going to get into the "okay, we need to slow this game down" mentality as much as we saw in a couple closer games last year, but I guess we'll see.
I would imagine a lot of that depends on how the defense performs.

Coaches getting conservative with a lead and blowing it is a bizarre phenomenon. Keep on doing what was working!

Mellot way better than Lamson. You really are a football idiot.
Better football player, yes.

But, football is a team sport and Lamson opened up more of the passing game making MSU harder to defend.

Btw, I’m surprised a renowned lawyer like yourself can’t disagree without using insults. I’ve found that’s common with insecure people. Hope you’re enjoying Turkey. It’s a beautiful country.
