Lady Griz with Comeback and Stiles Scores 26!

Stiles was 8-11 shooting. 3-5 from 3. 7-7 from line. 6 rebounds. 4 assists. 30 minutes, off bench.

Lonergam had a big night too, also off bench. 18 points in 9-14 shooting. 9 rebounds. 29 minutes.

LG shot 63.6% in 2d half.

Minutes for Isaak (starter), Anderson, Nicholson and Stockholm: 7, 6, 6 and 2. Klick must not have played.

Goligoski also had 13 points. So between the three of them, Stiles (true freshman), Lonergan and Goligoski (both sophomores) had 57 points and 19 boards.

I believe it's appropriate to add the important stats of another sophomore, McKenzie Johnston: 6 pts., 7 rebounds, 2 steals... 1 turnover and... 9 assists. So, we can update the above stats to read: One frosh, three sophomores totaled: 63 pts., 26 rebounds, and 13 assists (Stiles added 4 dimes).

Plus, jr. Jace Henderson had 3 assists,7 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 steals and 8 pts.

Johnston has the key player in most of the games I've seen. Even when she isn't scoring big or doing flashy things, she's running the team and getting the job done. She had 40 minutes of play last night. Love how she can shoot the shot driving to her left.

Very interesting thread title. Not knocking it at all, just...trying to understand it. Nobody else seems thrown off in the least, so I'm assuming it's a me thing. I'll keep trying...

Coneback isn't her real name. We're just trying to keep the whole thing under cover. She actually has been playing overseas since graduating from UCONN. She's a real scorer and is a Tasmanian Devil on defense. :o Not a chance the Big Sky refs are going to figure it out!

...got to love a coneback...
...best one that comes to mind...
...griz football against south dakota...

... 8-) ...

Way to go Ladies! Way to go Sophia! The future is bright.

Bright until we get to the postseason, where the quicker teams will tear us apart.

Fair point Citay. Lets get them back to regular post season appearances first, then see if Shannon can get them over the hump to compete on a national level.

I will say, one of the most memorable games I've ever seen was when the Lady Griz hosted LA Tech in the first round of the tournament in like '04 or '05. They were pretty competitive that year. Maybe we should be putting more bids in to host first round tournament games :thumb:

Good one. Is Coneback similar to ConeHead?

It was 2004, where the late, great Julie Deming shouldered most of the load and battled foul trouble throughout the game. I remember watching the game on ESPN2 and really thought they were going to unseat an always tough Louisiana Tech team but it wasn't to be.

I also remember LA Tech coach Kurt Budke saying during the postgame presser the next time he would come back to Montana was to just do some fishing, not bring any team he was coaching to Dahlberg Arena.

I think Stiles has a lot of upside potential because she didn't do the traveling team/AAU thing in high school. She is obviously very fast, quick and athletic too.

I believe that Craig Stiles, the great javelin thrower, is her uncle. From this article, it looks like former LG Linda Cummings is Sophia's cousin.

I was in the pep band for that game, which was among the most electric atmospheres for any Griz athletic game I've ever attended (football and men's basketball attended).

Everyone agreed that both La Tech and Montana were underseeded as the 5 and 12 seeds respectively. If they Lady Griz had completed the comeback, I still believe they would have beaten either Maine or Texas Tech (I believe those were the 8 and 9 seeds that year). This occured in the days were first and second round games were hosted by a home team, which wasn't always the highest seed.

What an impressive Lady Griz team: Julie Deming, Brooklyn Lorenzen, Holly Tyler, Katie Edwards (I believe) among others.
