The Ladies take out Portland State in OT 73-70, and get no notice on this forum. Jace again impressive with 25 and 18.
MissoulaCanucksFan said:It was truly an exciting game to say the least. Jace Henderson did Jace Henderson things like she always does in the paint, netting another double-double. McKenzie Johnston played all 45 minutes and chipped in 14 points of her own. Jordyn Schweyen set a career high for minutes played (34) and all three of her buckets were triples (as starter Gabi Harrington only played 16 minutes). Emma Stockholm had herself another solid game.

Just do it. :thumb: After their recent poor showings, maybe it was just expected that they'd lose, again. Haslam's silence on Schweyen's future is deafening. 2,800 did show up for the game, though.
grizzlyjournal said:Well, OK... I'll post again as a strong supporter of this Montana women's team. I had decided to avoid these recently negative threads, but...
I have NO personal rancor for negative posters, but consider these recent negative threads to be truly destructive. I attend ALL home Montana hoops games, always have attended all games, and see a solid, competitive program that's suffered an inordinate amount of bad luck. Simply that. THIS team currently has four players, in street clothing, at the end of the bench, all of whom over the past 18 months have been starters. ONLY nine players are left on the active roster. The four subs usually consist of three true frosh and one redshirt frosh.
As a statistics nerd, I see a ton of solid evidence, actual statistical evidence, that shows: When healthy, this team is (and has been) good enough to compete, this year, with the top five conf. teams in standings (Idaho, Idaho State, Northern Colorado, Montana State and Portland State), THREE of which Montana has beaten this year. Despite the tough breaks, this Montana team is STILL playing near .500.
I will not stoop to acknowledge "rumor," which I believe is a back door means used by those who don't stand behind their opinions. My support of this program is here, on this post. So is my real name. I support this Montana program.

grizzlyjournal said:PlayerRep: I am NOT connected to the University of Montana (Montana athletics) in any way, shape for form. (I used to work as a sports writer with the Missoulian from 1980-89; I had access to Montana sporting events as an independent freelance writer from 2004-2012.) I'm just an old retired guy who still loves to write... and share some of my opinions through my writing. A lot of people in Missoula who are my age volunteer their services for organizations or people. Keeps my mind sharp (I hope).
•I PAY for GAA membership in my name and season's tickets for Men's basketball games, women's softball and volleyball games (thinkin about soccer).
• I currently am FULLY retired and offer my services as a writer on a fully volunteer basis. I refuse ANY monetary compensation for ANY writing I do.
• As stated before: I am an outsider. I have no official connections to anyone or any organization (I am not a member of men's or womens hoops booster clubs). I do attend the public Grizzly coaches shows. Otherwise, I just love to write stories (and take some action photos) about good people, many of them athletes.
• Because of my freelance status, I occasionally have press access to certain women's games. Unless things have changed in a way I am unaware, professional journalists (known as columnists) who express their opinions in written form, even freelancers, are regularly granted access to public events. Opinion columnists usually have official license to voice their own opinions, either for an organization or as an independent.
• Because I have a personal ethical code regarding journalistic writing, I do INSIST upon being an outsider. I personally have a code AGAINST using information that is labeled as rumor or as based upon rumor. I do occasionally shake hands & say things like, "Awesome game."
• If you decide to "call me out," that's your right. You won't find much, other than that I like good coffee (roast my own) and am Missoula's most effete coffee snob. (in a good & prove-able way)
• As I wrote above, I purposely do NOT listen to rumors, or acknowledge them. I think the whole concept and definition of "rumor" is dangerous. I believe in statistics. But I have NOT (quoting you, above) "heard the exact same from the athletic department, from parents and friends, from players and friends, from boosters." Nor do I wish to...
• Lastly... I strongly support the University of Montana and, in particular, the women's basketball program. Go Montana!
grizzlyjournal said:PlayerRep: I'm still confused about something. Why do you consider my stated belief that statistical evidence can justify a strong support of Montana women's basketball as something you believe is not honest? Baffles me. I read the statistics and I reach conclusions regarding the statistics I read (supported by all the games I watch in person). Again: baffling.

In some situations, I agree with your above comments. And while I have sometimes referred to some things at rumors (intending to water them down), some of them are not rumors. They are from pretty close to the horse's mouth, and from people who. wouldn't make them up. Friends of coaches. Athletic Department personnel. Parents.
What I have posted on the subject has nothing to do with my "opinion". I don't have an opinion on the subject. Also, I truly thought that you knew the same things, but were trying to undercut them with your post.
In a nutshell, I thought you were calling out people for posting rumors, even though you knew that most of them were true.

PlayerRep: I am not "alluding" to you with the following... I am willing to back it with my identity.
I do not wish to belabor this. But I also do NOT want to see coaches have to endure the results of mob crusades fueled by rumor (treatment... let's face it, that coach Stitt also suffered). I'm not saying that coaches can't be fired. I am saying that statistics prove a coach needs one-to-two recruiting classes (4-5 years min) to build a program.
So, as a result of what I have observed over the years, I simply WILL NOT listen to people who don't or won't take public responsibility (who have the courage to say..."Yes, I said that.") for their actions or their statements/opinions.
