Recent performances, on a national stage, have shown Montana(men or women)to be a 16 seed. Maybe once or twice in a lifetime they pull off a upset. It is what it is, Montana is NOT a national basketball power. Top of the BSC, is big fish in a small pond. The really big fish are waiting in the playoffs.

We have an excellent AD, very good coaches with the men's and women's programs. Lacking is a very bad conference, thus, less than quality competition on a regular basis. It is difficult to recruit outstanding student athletes to be rewarded by playing Big Sky Conference opponents.
Playing a strong schedule will help attract more outstanding student-athletes to play basketball at Montana, then one day, many won't be complaining about being seeded 16.

The "schedule" is NOT the problem. UM men and women played solid nationally recognized teams. The game has simply improved for the women and UM remains just as they have been. That is fine as long as expectations are not high.

I think the men's schedule was good this year, and from what I hear, will be very good next year. When you don't play top teams you are definitely a fish out of water because you have no idea how to play at that level. The more difficult your schedule the more prepared you are to go up against a Notre Dame etc. Not that you will win because Montana does not have that level of talent but you do know what to expect...a la turning a 34 point loss into a 10 or 15 point loss. Doing that against a Notre Dame will mean beating a lot of other teams that Montana (either men or women) will play every year

15 seed Alabama State had a season record of 13-15 and a 265 RPI and a 342 strength of schedule. Lady Griz had a 88 RPI and 215 SOS.
