Lady Griz V Utah

Grizlaw said:
Well, it is too bad our year didn't end on a better note, but they're a young team with about as much talent as we could hope for, and they'll be right back in it next year I'm sure.

Thanks for a great year, ladies!

I don't agree. She has had to handle the ball the entire game, she has made a couple great blocks on D, her shot is n't falling, but who knows how that back is. Remember how much it affected Katie Edwards on her shot?? Give her a freaking break. If you knew her you know how competetive she is. Look at Conway and Rogers stat line while you are ripping Morales.

Oh Chill out dude. Just my opinion. She's just kind of walking around, not driving like she normally does, she just looks burned out. Maybe she's tired, I don't know. Just didn't look like the Mandy we all know and love.

I am chilled out DUDE, whatever a dude is . I guess you were not aware she has gotten treatment on her back every day since the BSC Tourney. Do you think the trip to SLC helped it?

Yes and know. I was not aware as to the extent of her back injury. Guess that explains her inability to get to the hoop. That's her bread and butter.

I think that had a lot to do with her not taking it to the hole. Mandy as you know passes alot, but she really didn't look for her shot much at all. I think the contact was really hurting her back more than she let on. When they showed some closeups of her face, she was wincing a bit.

I also think it is wrong that a former Utah Womens (2nd leading score in Utah History no less) player is allowed to work the game, as lead official no less. She is put in a no win situation and she was directly involved in 3 calls that went against UM, two of them on over rules by her. :twocents:

Could not agree more on that one.

Grizbacker-you sound like every other Lady Griz fan at Dahlberg. Whine, bitch and moan about every call that doesn't go our way. Utah had 6 fouls 5 minutes into the game. The Lady Griz had the bonus for practically the whole 1st half. We had a 10 point lead in the 2nd half and choked it away with terrible shooting efforts by some, but somehow it's the refs fault? The fouls were 17 to 16 for the game. Yeah, we really got "homered".

You also ripped anyone giving score updates ASSUMING everyone was watching the webcast just like you were. Some had to ask for score updates, and then you criticized those that gave them. Then you go off on somebody's opinion about how they thought players were playing. Quit being such a pompous ass!

Anyways, here's MY opinion (which will surely be critized by the inside expert). This Lady Griz team didn't have the senior leadership needed to make any post-season runs. They'll only be better in the next couple years and hopefully be more mature and ready to step it up in the post-season. They got complacent. They expected the NCAA to bail them out for their screw-up. They didn't earn anything. Hopefully the painful lessons of this year will make them hungrier in the future.

Hey Zirg,

I read your post where you must have said how wealthy you are about 15 times, then said you never talk about it. Tell you what big moeny, use the ignore button. You might have money, but you can't buy yourself balls to say that shit to my face. Grow some, then we will talk. Until then GFY.

By the way, I have seldom, hardly ever complained about officiating. If you watched the game, whihc I doubt, and knew jack about basketball, you might have noticed it. I doubt you coul dpass a rules test, let alone know the difference between the lead and trail official and their reponsibilities during the game, what area of the court they are responsible for, etc. So go tell someone about your money again. That post was more self serving than all of SGF's combined. Talk about a pompous ass, you wrote the book you dumbass.

grizbacker, you are too much. i don't have any qualms with you personally, but have you ever objectively read some of your posts?

" You might have money, but you can't buy yourself balls to say that shit to my face. Grow some, then we will talk."

Really? This is a message board.

I'm not trying to come off as a dick, honestly, i just want to save you from embarressment in the future

Personally, hasn't just about every player on the LG team have a redshirt year along the way? Gale was a fifth-year player, the juniors, Cote & Closson, were four year players, most everyone has had a redshirt year except maybe Lohman & Conway. With that much experience in the system one would think that there is already enough 'maturity' to handle playing in a game, whether regular season and/or postseason.

If the information on the referees are correct, since when can't we have ex-players officiate our games as well? Isn't that a conflict of interest? As if there really is impartiality involved? The LG lose to a team that got beat twice by Wyoming that lost twice to the LG? Even Utah had trouble defeating the MSU Bobcats back in December, 66 - 63. 'billings_poke,' I don't agree with your assessment that the Utes were underrated, not even with two freshmen starters & hardly a bench other than Warner. You're just pounding your chest over a fellow conference member to Wyoming that had a game given to them without their earning it. The number of fouls called equate to what?..a quota system?...yeah, yeah, sour grapes and all that BS.

I am not trying to say that Julie Krommenhoek intentionally tried to favor Utah, but I will say she shoul dnever have been assigned this game when there were 23 other games she could have worked. For those who don't know, Julie was the lead official in tonight's game, and is probably more than qualified to officiate on the collegiate level. Julie is alos the second leading scorer in Utha history. It simply looks bad, and there were some controversial calls she was involved in, that all went against Montana and were the calls most vehemently argued by Selvig. It is unfair to Julie that she was assigned to this game because it places her is a position where a bad call (whihc happens to every official) looks as though she is favoring her alma mater, which I don't think she would do, but it should not even get to that point because the NCAA Official in charge of assigning the officials made an error. I am NOT saying it cost the LG the game either, because I think Utah outplayed the LG thoroughly in the second half when Montan was clearly tired and a step slow on Defense. :twocents:

ignominious end to an otherwise stellar season. mandy just not the same player i saw earlier in the year at santa clara. tired? tentative because of foul trouble? what distinguishes her play is her ability to create shots, but she just wasn't looking to do that down the stretch, when our three-point bombs weren't connecting and we most needed her to create. i thought she'd take over the game; instead, she disappeared.

also, too many defensive lapses in the second half--clear drives to the basket by the lady utes. our ladies played more like fuzzy-wuzzies than grizzlies.

still think we need one more dynamic inside player, and hope dvera tolbert is the answer. but overall, i was very impressed with the level of our talent. for three quarters of the game we were by far the better team on that floor. with some maturity, we should be tough the next two years.

I guess her back doesn't make a difference to you huh city. Thank God you aren't the coach, she likely would be a cripple.

Maybe, just maybe, the LG are not as good as ya'll think. :naughty:
Or maybe they just couldn't get up for the game, after being snubbed of the NCAAs. Yes, I know, that's a weak excuse, and Utah, or any other NIT team could use that... but I don't care, GO LG!

I personally think Selvig played Mandy to many minutes thoward the end of the season and it showed in her body getting worn down. She was really tired at the end of the season. You could see her force things to create something and her legs were'nt there. He relied on her to much to bail the griz out when she needed some minutes on the bench to retrench and get her second wind. Hopefully next year with more maturity they will not abuse Mandy and keep her a little more fresh for the end of the season when the tournament arrives.

agree with you completely, bobaloo. i saw this in ogden at the weber game. they pressed us full court, and mandy spent way too much time and effort getting the inbounds pass and then bringing the ball up court. not how you want your star to be expending her energy, especially when you've got another clever ballhandler in sonya rogers. others will deify selvig and rightly point out that i am not the coach (thank god for that!) yet the proof of our observations was obvious in salt lake, where a team with evidently superior size and talent just utterly collapsed down the stretch. we should have more depth next year, and hopefully mandy will be fresh we'll be playing our best ball come the post-season.

Hopefully the loss to NAU and Utah will be a learning experience and help them next year.

As Tamara Guardipee said, “But the second half, we didn't come out as ready as we're supposed to be. We came out kind of more relaxed than competitive.”

Next year, they will know they have to more competitive for the whole game than just the first half.

Closson, Conway, and Cote were the only players that played on a team that won the Big Sky Tournament prior to this year(or played ona team that won any game in a Big sky conference tournament). But, our leader, Mandy, and most other players on the Lady Griz did not, including the Lady Griz's only senior, Gale (although she did play 4 minutes in the NCAA tournament game, but not in any Big Sky conference tournament game except this year).

One thing I'am surprised about is that Betsy Snead didn't contribute as much as a 'Gatorade POY,' albeit from Wyoming, would normally be expected to do. I was thinking before the season that she'd possibly be vying for a starters role. She averaged 18 ppg as a senior in hs.

I agree with 'citygriz' with his observation insofar as before the season I was expecting Rogers to be the starting PG and Mandy at the SG position; maybe next year?

grizbacker-you know you may have a good reason to be a dick to me. I may actually deserve it. I just didn't see what AtHomeInTheDahlbergDen, Griz2000 or DJTylerT did to deserve your wrath while trying to be helpful giving updates and/or asking for updates. You just said "yeah we're all watching the game" or "why aren't you watching the game". What is with that?

Twice you were a snide jerk to Tyler who is a buddy of mine and is the DJ at Griz games merely for providing score and time updates. Believe it or not, SOME people appreciate those. So, feel free to continue to be an ass to me, but try to show some class to those that deserve it. Peace

I wasn't trying to be a dick to them to be honest. If you were on some of the other gameday threads you would have seen that on several occaisions almost veryone in the room was either watching the game on TV or the Net and one guy who was also watching was giving the score and play byu play when we were alll watching. I thought we had a similar scenario, whihc is why I said yes we know, thanks, simple as that. I didn't see anyone say they needed the score until later. so if I offended your buddy, I owe him an apology. I wasn't trying to offend him,. As for treating you any different over one thing, nah, I forgot about it after we both had our say. In case you had not noticed I haven't brought you up since. There is only one poster that is a perpectual jackass, and he has been banned under countless names, the most recent being Seattle Griz Fan (even though he nver lived there) and the Minot name under whihc he got banned yesterday. I was a little worked up over the game and maybe I did overreact a bit, I am guilty of that at times. I am man enough to admit that. If someone has an issue all they have to do is PM me, and I am sure we can resolve it just as easily. Thanks for the heads up. :thumb:
