Lady Griz v USD

Should be a good game tonight. LGriz making improvements, rounding out a balanced Offense and Defense. USD doing well with their season, some height, but a younger team. USD 11-4 this year.

Bartsch has made a big leap in her sophomore year. What a game!

Is she not a Junior this year?
As far as I know; a 'true' junior without taking a redshirt year out of high school like some do, or should I say, have done, these days.

The turnover margin, which hasn’t been so kind to the Lady Griz this season, helped them win this one. The Lady Griz turned it over just 8 times compared to USD’s 20 and had 63 FGA to USD’s 55 (despite a poor showing on the glass).

Nearly 70% of Montana’s shot attempts came from behind the arc and they hit a respectable 36.4%.

Double doubles for Marxen and Gfeller as Bartsch continues to show off her improved stroke from behind the arc.

A dominant 19-5 fourth quarter kept the Lady Griz in control to close out the game.

Dani Bartsch's best game of her career.

Second half was the best defense by the Lady Griz this year.

Best refereed game I have witnessed in a long time.

Lady Griz have yet to play 4 quarters good yet this year. Start of the year they may have played well at most 2 quarters of the game. Past 4 or 5 games, always seems to have one bad quarter. But It looks like they are getting close to putting it all together. I figure they will be playing consistently the entire game. Might as well make it the next game.

Only caught the game from around the last half of the 3rd quarter. What stood out to me was how much hustle and controlled aggression the ladies played with. During the whole fourth quarter, it seemed like the Lady Griz got to every loose ball or 50/50 rebound. Outstanding effort!

USD made a good go at us, good that we were able to defend them enough to offset what could have been a big offensive surge. Yes we are rounding out our entire game. But it seems our shooting seems inconsistent, Espenmiller for instance was 3/13 FG, and 3/11 3pts. Gina did very well with assists and some scoring but was 3/11 FG, 2/8 3pt. Dani!!! An astounding game by Bartch, stat-stuffing, POW material in my book. Her stats were partially listed above. Here's her whole line:
Minutes played: 37
Points: 17 on 6-10 shooting, 5-9 from 3 pt range
Rebounds: 11 (5 offensive boards)
Floor stats: 1 asst, 1 t.o., 2 blocks, 4 steals (out of 12 team steals)

Coach Holsinger piggy-backed a full team time out with the 4th quarter media time out to give Bartch a breather.

The game story at GoGriz is excellent, with extensive quotes from Bartch and Holsinger. https://gogriz.com/news/2024/1/3/womens-basketball-bartsch-leads-montana-to-sixth-straight-win

Bartch quote on her 6-10 shooting night: "It was clicking today," said Bartsch. "I was too tired to think, and the less I think, the more they go in."
