Lady Griz to play in WNIT

Utah, 5th place in conference and losers of 4 of their last 6...18-13 overall.

HOSTING the 27-3 Lady Griz...

Hummmmnnnnn???? Not sure a ROAD game makes a lot of sense-

If the LGs beat Utah they'd better get a home game in the next round, or I'll start to lose my temper.

BTW, the griz seemed to like Utah's arena last year so there's something good.

Here is the WNIT bracket. Winner of LG/ Utah goes to Illinois.

Lady Griz have not played well at Utah in the most recent years.

Wonder if this Morgan Warburton is related to Chelsea Warburton of WSU. She is Utah's leading scorer with 15.9.

Utah averages 60.9 points a game, gives up 58.4. Good defense to make up for average at best offense.

Lady Griz should be able to pull this out. Considering how Lady Griz bounced back after each loss, I expect it.

Utah averaged 1,110 fans a game this year.

Kind of makes you think, Lady Griz would be hosting this if it weren't for that Home and Garden show.

I do not think the home and garden show has much to do with it since the game is being played on Wednesday

It was announced last week that Lady Griz wouldn't be hosting any WNIT games because of the home and garden show if Lady Griz were to be in it.

The WNIT is like the football playoffs, you have to bid to host games and since the WNIT is not owned by the NCAA the highest bidder gets to host.

SDSU has a first round bye and will host the Ill. State vs Rice winner.

The NCAA owns the mens NIT as of last year. Are you saying they don't own the women's? link?

Unreal first we get but rammed by the NCAA Selection commitee and then the WNIT Group screws us as well ? With the 4000+ attendance we would have brought to a 1st and or 2nd round game ? Thats BS about the Home and Garden Show ( who's the idiot that allowed that to be scheduled ? What if the Men;s team had a home chance at the NIT ????) We could have played at Sentinel or Butte , what a screw Job, time to leave the Big Sky....

Athletic Management at the University needs to be questioned, and Dennison needs to grow some balls and get us into a D-1 asap.

I don't see how the ladies didn't make it into the big tournament. They were ranked 25th and 26th last week in the polls. This is one of the biggest snubbs I have ever seen in the tournament, mens or womens.

Yes, how could someone not have anticipated that the Home and Garden show would interfere with an WNIT game. Everyone has been predicting an WNIT game all season, right? Let's see all the egriz links all season to the WNIT invite and game.

There may be differences this year, at least, since the NCAA changed their hosting sites and they are already pre-selected somewhat a couple years in advance, but, really, isn't that one of the main reasons that the Dahlberg Arena doesn't schedule high school bb tournaments?..used to be that way, anyways. That it 'might' interfere in the Griz playing postseason games on their own court?

One would think that after nearly thirty years and about 16/17 NCAA appearances and like three WNITs before this year, that some foresight would have been available and applied. It's not like that they couldn't have the H&G show two weeks from now either. Certain plants 'only' grow in Missoula the second week of March? My home grown does better than that!!!

All of the state basketball tourneys have been completed. Not scheduling the state tourney's can't possibly have anything to do with the ncaa or WNIT tourneys.

Did one year. Late eighties or something. Had a girls hs bb tournament in the Dahlberg and an LG NCAA game as well the same weekend; Utah? Whatever. It was interesting to see most of the hs team players/fans come by and watch the college game as played by the LG at the time; since then, I wouldn't be a bit surprised that the state 'has' changed around their tournaments time of the year scheduling, etc. They even now have an all-class vb tournament in Bozeman the last couple years. Must make the state locals appreciate Bozeman all that much more and all that. Good PR seems to go a long way apparently. Something the UM should consider, at least for their 'own' state. They did also change the girls' volleyball/basketball seasons around sometime along the way too as I recall. Also recall that the arena staff said that they didn't want to bid for another NCAA hosting since it was too much work for them, hosting and being hospitable and all. Interesting.
I swear, sometimes some people are really 'full of themselves.'

Now, as I recall, I think it was a BSC tournament; one of thirteen out of sixteen times Missoula hosted from 1982-83 to 1997-98. It was almost a 'given' during such times.

That is correct, they own the Men's but not the Women's

Does anyone else get tired of all the people complaining about not getting into the NCAA tourney? Let's see how good the Lady Griz are as they venture into the Huntsman Center for a game against the 18-13 Lady Utes. IF Montana cannot beat Utah, regardless of where the game is being played, will you people still think they got "snubbed" by the NCAA tournament committee? Utah is very mediocre on a national scale this year, so time will tell how our 27 win team matches up. If the Lady Griz were to win at Utah, & win at Illinois they would send a message to the folks that seem to favor the east coast and major conferences. My hope is that Montana will play with a chip on their shoulder not just at Utah, but at Illinois as well and MAYBE then, people will start to take notice. If you can't get it done at Utah, you have no basis to take it on on the tournament committee.

Yeah, we will see how the Lady Griz play in a 15,000 seat arena, and only around 1,000 of them with anybody sitting in them, and top it off being real heartbroken for missing the NCAA tournament that was theirs if they just played to their ability. Even a team like Montana State averages more fans than Utah.

At least the Lady Griz played in places that get even fewer fans, so that really shouldn't be a factor, but enthusiasm and motivation could be. Would really have helped if the WNIT sent the Lady Griz to a place that supports women's basketball better than Utah.

But, they have to deal with the hand dealt with and go kick ass. Lady Griz have bounced back from two other bad losses, this will test them whether they can bounce back from adversity again. This will be the largest test yet.

I would have thought NAU would have been invited to the WNIT with a 20 - 12 record as well, guess not; maybe next year the BSC 'might' just get three teams into postseason play.
