Lady Griz Stomp the Bobcats.

Wasn't much of a game, Lady Griz 95-75. Morales and Rogers were one fire (20 of 25). Lohman and Ena poured it in also (10 and 19 respectively).

It's true that if MSU hadn't knocked down a few of those shots in the 2nd half, it could have been an even bigger blowout but I enjoyed watching the ladies play more than the men. LG play with fire and heart for almost the entire game while it's a rarity to see pure effort from the men consistently. Can't say enough about Sonja, Mandy, Lohman, Ena, and the rest of the team. Defensively, the LG are solid year in and year out but this year they have quite a few weapons on offense and that make games fun to watch/listen to.

While I love watching men's basketball and am just starting to come around to the women's game I will say that it is way better to watch the Lady Griz offensively compared to the Griz. The LG's can flat out shoot the ball! These girls do not miss open shots.
Mandy Morales 10-11!
Sonya Rogers 10-14!
Wow.

I think if i was to coach against the lady griz i would designate one girl to completely deny Sonya the ball the entire game. I would instruct this girl to not even worry about rebounding and to just face guard the full game. Too often it seems that teams key on Mandy; she's too good, she's going to get her 15 to 20 NO MATTER WHAT. If anyone wants a chance at beating us you can't let Sonya get going too. She's easily in the top 5 for shooters to ever wear a griz or lady griz uniform and she has the quickest release I've ever seen.

Good to see Justin Scanson still coaching with the lady cat team. He was an assistant for the Sentinel boys teams a while back when they had Henkel. I remember the players always really said he had a great feel for coaching, hopefully he can continue to move up the ranks the coaching world.

They do try to deny Sonya the ball. Erica Perry certainly tried, but she couldn't deny her. Sonya just needs a small opening due to her quick shot. Can't double team her either because then there is Mandy or Ena or Britney or Beck. Best starting 5 in the conference. Just a bit weak on the bench.

They tried to deny but nobody has flat out face guarded her. There's a difference.

Might work some of the time, but most times I figure it won't work. You'd have to have a player that is pretty quick and a good defender. Sonya isn't exactly slow, she can create her own shot, stays in motion for most part of the game (like 35 to 40 minutes) and lady Griz do make screens for her, I can't think of too many players in this league that would be able to contain her and the other 4 players unless everyone has a collectively bad game. Very few teams in this league has a player that can deny her by face guarding and be able to stop all the other 4 Lady Griz players. PSU or NCU may be able to do it. Can't think of too many other teams in the league that would be able to. Defensively, Lady Griz are far above any other teams in the league. Lady Griz did give up 75 points against the Cats, but with the 20 point lead and your still shooting very well, plus the subs are coming in, defensive intensity does drop some. I suspect the Cats would not have scored as many points if Lady Griz didn't shoot so well.

Mandy is a player that almost requires double teaming. Mandy is the leader of the team, the best player, can find the open player or create her own points better then most or all the players in the conference. When it comes to crunch time, she does it. You prevent Mandy from penetrating the key, harass her enough to keep her finding anyone else, you cause more damage than denying and face guarding any other player. I figure that will be what most teams will do. Hope Mandy holds up well by end of this year, she is playing more minutes this year than last. I figure she could be going to the line alot this year.

And you can't forget Ena. She is getting more consistent each game she plays and is becoming a bigger threat. That 19 points against the Cats didn't surprise me at all she is going to have bigger games. Britany is a threat to score in double figures every game and so is Beck. But, I guess if there is any player you can let beat you, it would be Beck. Let whoever guards her to cheat a little and help out on Sonya, Mandy, Ena, or Britany.
