Lady Griz Semis

And if the LG do NOT get an at large, they'll have gotten screwed.

You can't lose in the semi's of the Big Sky tournament & say you got screwed. The Griz had some decent wins, but where is the marquee victory that the Griz can point to & say "we belong".

There's no marquee win on their ledger, per se. But there is a host of quality wins. I believe the selection committee cares more about a number of quality wins than one or two "marquee" wins.

The Griz beat Gonzaga (who went 15-1 in conf play and won their tournament and are in the Dance). They've beaten Wyoming (21-9) twice. They beat Davidson (23-8). Hell, that alone should be enough. Then they've got wins over Washington State, Portland, Canisius, Santa Clara and Utah State. Yes, all of those teams are sort of down this year, but it's not as if the Griz were beating DII teams. Finally, they lose once in conference, have a good RPI. They have a team that ranks in the top 15 nationally in a LOT of statistics. And they have a player in Mandy that the committee is going to want to expose.

I agree with GB1. This team is in. I predict an 11 seed. You heard it here second.

Still, FUC%.

An 11 seed would give em a better shot and making sweet 16 then 7-10 seed. Everything always works out fer Lady Griz. Boy they are smart . Make the sweet 16 without playing a top 8 or maybe even a top 10 team in the country. Blessing in disguise. At least I hope so.

The fact is the LG got outplayed tonight

Yes. The LG made major errors from the beginning, and throughout the entire game. It was not due to facing better players. For last night's game at least, I think it was better coaching.

Now that takes the taco right there. The 30% shooting and numerous turnovers had more to do with it than coaching. The fact is the team played tight and lost.

I do not think he was criticizing Selvig. But, NAU's Laurie Kelly certainly did a great job preparing NAU players for this game. NAU looked very loose prior to the game and came out with swagger. Playing an extra game on thursday may have been an advantage for NAU. Lady Griz didn't play for over a week and was tight.

As much as the Selection Committee is power conference/East Coast-biased, I believe, (like EverettGriz.. aka Eric) that they stand a decent chance of getting into the Big Dance for all the reasons cited by EG and the other posters. EG---we'll still have a chance to get the Seattle Griz troops together to see the LG play some more hoops---hopefully of Big Dance variety!!!

Keep your fingers crossed Lady Griz Nation!!!!

Robin didn't seem to confident of getting in on the radio interview after the game.
felt bad for the girls...god season..just a shame.

One thing that has not been talked about is Senior leadership. NAU has 3 great seniors who have been through it and it showed at the crucial times of the game. This was probably the toughest matchup the LG could have had. On the other hand I think ISU is a matchup nightmare for NAU, and I would not be surprised to see ISU win. If the refs allow NAU to play as physical as last night, they win. NAU got into the LG players heads and they were too worried about refs not calling fouls instead of focusing on the game. They learned a lot hopefully and are not done yet this year. I hope they get an at large NCAA bid, but if they go NIT they could do some damage.

three immutable laws of college basketball:

1. no matter how good, no matter what the record, sophomores will be sophomores;
2. it's always hard to beat a team three times the same season;
3. when you get to the playoffs, the new math applies: one and done. what served the men so well for two years, hurt the ladies last night.

we should still be in the big dance. we have the record, the hall-of-fame coach, an all-american player and a good non-conference record. if we don't make it, i won't name the culprit, but i'll give you a clue: it starts with big and ends with sky.

1. Yep.

2. It's very hard to beat a good team 3 times in a season.

3. Never been a big fan of tournaments. I know they helped LK's boys the last 2 seasons, but it certainly minimizes all that took place the prior 3 months.

4. Agree we should be in. Agree our conference affiliation won't help us. But I don't think it will hurt us as much as a normal year. And I agree that Robin, our NC schedule, Mandy and the fact that the LG are among the nation's leaders in a number of categories get us in.

I don't buy that can't beat a team 3 times crap. The Coach saying it is generally the one who has lost the frist 2 times. They came up with that to rally their team. I can name dozens of times Selvig's teams have done so over the years. Take a look at his record if you don't belive it. In fact, when Robin was aksed about it once his reply was: "It is easy to beat a team 3 times if you are the better team." I am paraphrasing but that is pretty much what it was verbatim.

It is tough though... you hear about it at every level. My high school plays a team for the 4th time tonight, in the WA 3a state title game and I have to admit i'm a little worried about this jinx where you win all the ones that don't mean as much and the lesser team finally breaks through.

I have heard announcers talk all day about how often there are upsets in conference tournaments. Typically a good team still makes it in. I also think playing on Thursday can be an adavantage.

Personally, I think the Top 25 thing hurt us and motivated NAU. Could have gone to our sophomore's heads. It did not take great coaching to prepare NAU for this game. They could play with a nothing to lose, giant killer attitude. Plus NAU is a better team than the one that played so average during the regular season. Personally I think Kelly is an average coach and she should have had 22+ wins with this team, which would have helped us right now.

You hear lots of things a lot, doesn't make it true. For very time you show me a team going 2-1 against someone I can show you a team that went 3-0 against another team. It is a cliche, plain and simple and a gimmick coaches use to try and convince their team they can beat the team that has beaten them twice already because of that. The fact is, you go out on the floor and do it, not through a sound bite.

Yeah, but the thing is, you hear about it almost equally. A team that's 2-0 against a team should beat the other like 75-90% of the time but stories like this keep popping up, the winning percentage in that third game seems to be abnormally high... i'm definitely not blaming that for the LG loss though. The key possession had to be the Morales 3 early in the shot clock. I wish we would've worked it around more then MAYBE taken a 3 or gone for the two and extended the game.

According to the latest bracket prediction on ESPN.com the Griz would be a 10 seed playing Cal in the 1st round.

I like that matchup - I would think it would be near impossible for the lady Griz to be excluded from the tourneys with their record.

When are the brackets announced?
