Lady Griz/PSU

The LG are a bunch of scrappers and none so more than Sarah Ena who refused to be denied her space under the basket. The crowd was great, but I didn't see anybody sticking around for the men's game, but there's better ways to kill a couple hours than in an empty Dahlberg Area. Like the Press Box.

WHO SAID THEY LIKE THE LG RADIO CREW? The best thing about being at the game was not having to listen to Tom Stage's grammar-challenged side kick. No self-respecting school with an English department (UM) should ever let this guy on the air without his first taking a couple of semesters of Remedial English 101. I'm embarrassed for him - and UM athletics. Just Pathetic!
Hey, I said it...I should have qualified it, by saying the main announcer...I agree with the "sidekick"....that might just be his "act", but it is really out of place in a college game...I wish the announcer, what's his name, Stage (?) could do the men's game....he is very professional...steady....the local guy with the "aw shucks" routine ruins the Griz games for me, that is, when they are playing better....

Mandy had her usual superb game, Rogers was unconscious, and Ena refused to back down to anybody. But in my opinion, the game ball goes to Shaunte. She single-handedly lifted that team up when they were down.

I was shocked when Selvig pulled her out of the game, but it's tough to criticize Robin.

Shaunte was the spark-plug that started the come back in the 1st period, I think over a matter of just a few minutes she had a few steals, an assist, a basket, and drew a foul on a PSU player. I was a little surprised too that she didn't play much from there on out, however her contribution was great when on the court.

Agreed, tough to critcize, b/c the 2nd half LG played an excellent game - it seemed as soon as they scrapped the 2-1-2 defense PSU had a lot more trouble getting open 3's and getting open shots underneath.

BTW - Shaunte's pre-game dance for the men's game with the sugar bears was awesome, for those who weren't there by then she borrowed a set of pom-poms and did a dance of her own, great stuff!

I agree Shaunte was great. But she launched a couple of 3-balls early in the shot-clock that were probably outside of her range. Right after that, she sat. I think Rob loved the hustle, but perhaps questioned her decision-making on those two bombs.

I agree ReMax that Shaunte played great when she played, and I also was a little shocked that she did not really play in the second half.

But, the Lady Griz never played any 2-1-2 defense in the game. They played man and for a period of time some traditional 2-3 zone. As you mentioned, Portland seemed to not have any trouble getting off shots when the Ladies played zone.

Hmm.... I'm pretty sure I saw what looked like a 2-1-2, however maybe it was a 2-3 and the middle person in the 3 was playing more in the key than around the perimeter...

Yep, you're right. I didn't have a problem with either shot. The first one was a good look, and it rimmed out. The second one wasn't really her fault, as Rogers got in trouble on the perimeter and finally got the ball to Shaunte with time running out on the shot clock. I think Shaunte felt there were only a few seconds left, when there were actually six. But like I say, tough to criticize the old man. :)

Shaunte has improved a lot this year. Started out turning the ball way to often, and making some real bad decisions. But, yesterdays game really showed how much she has improved over the season. No turnovers, and I don't really think she made a bad decision in this game. Maybe 1 of those three pointers wasn't the smartest but I don't think it was a bad decision. But, she did not turn it over once, she didn't drive into the key trying to do to much like she did early this year.

That steal she made and getting the ball to Sonya for the easy layup, was in my opinion the spark she provided to the game.

Next year, I figure she will be playing 25 to 30 minutes a game instead of just 13 minutes this year. But, as for her playing only 7 minutes, that is mostly because Selvig wants the best defenders out there on the court, and that is who he played most in addition she plays the position that Mandy plays at and she just isn't going to replace Mandy.

Shaunte entertained the crowd before the men's game dancing with the dance team, pom poms and all. Looked like she was having lots of fun and the crowd showed their approval cheering her back to her seat.
