2 seconds left, the shooter is going to be shooting pretty quickly. Time a foul wrong as you never know when a ref is actually going to call it and the shooter may also be very aware that she is going to be fouled and put up a shot as soon as she is going to be fouled giving her 3 free throws. All the player has to do is throw the ball toward the basket as soon as contact is made. Larry Bird was very good at this.
Lady Griz should have won that game.
GFeller was an 86% freethrow shooter. She hits 2 of 6 this game. Very uncharacteristic on her part. Hit one and the game is over in regulation.
Marxen hit 2 free throws just prior to the 3 point shot that tied it. This gave PSU a chance to inbound it at half court giving them a halfway decent chance at a 3 point shot which they made.
Better odds would have Marxen missing the second shot and with only 2 seconds left, the best PSU would have gotten was a 3/4 court shot which the odds of making that shot is significantly less than half court shot. Not many women can pass the ball that accurately from 3/4 court or further out, and the shot would have been more in desperation than the shot the player made in this game. It would take more than 2 seconds to pass the ball after rebounding it and finding an open player down court to get a similar shot the player that made the shot yesterday.
Anyway, with 2 of the 3 players missing that were in the regular rotation (Albrect hardly played), hurt the Lady Griz hard at the end in my opinion.
Tough game against Sac St saturday and if Haley and Keeli can't make, Lady Griz may have an impossible task in winning the game against a team that just beat the Bobcats yesterday.
I thought this too but I then realized if Marxen misses the second free throw on purpose the Vikes have called a pre-emptory timeout with the refs on the rebound before a foul can occur and get to move it to half court, where then a 3 pointer beats you in regulation.
